Whiney clutch?

The clutch in my 99 whines. I crank it up and its really loud but when i press the clutch pedal it quits. It makes a whirlling/whining sound. It gets less noticiable after ive been driving for about 15 min or so. What could this be?

check your clutch fluid make sure its up to proper level and then check for the clutch pedal free play and make sure its adjusted properly .

my 96 t-100 does the same thing , and after filling the clutch fluid to proper level it cut down on the squel, i checked the adjustment and its off a bit . by about half an inch , i jsut havent had time to adjust it , i suspect that after its adjusted it will stop squeling or be a lot less noticable.

some people have said this is bc of the pilot bearing set up that toyota uses , this im not sure of.

The whining you are describing is normal. Clutch fluid (which is brake fluid) wont do anything to the whine.

I went through the same worries when I first got my 5 speed.

so there is nothing that can be done for this? I read somewhere that there are two places that should be oiled/greased and this whine is the cause of one of the places not being oiled.

Well, this will sound funny, but it depends on how bad the whine is.

Having gone from an Auto Tacoma to a 5speed Runner, I felt my whine was very significant. But, after a couple posts here and a couple trips to the dealer, I was reassured that this was normal.
