Where to get leif springs if NWOR no-good?

Hey all,

I was reading Dr. Z's thread "Eating Crow" about NWOR so I was wondering where else to look for replacement leif springs for my 87' 4Runner with that all too common saggy butt look. I want to go 1-2 inches higher than stock to make up for the difference in wheel well cut as well. The problem is that I went to Sway A-Way since that is where Dr. Z was going for his new coils, but they don't carry my leif springs. Who does? Thanks in advance for any responces.

Ahhhh! Thanks! Have you gone through them for anything? Just wanted to see if anyone has good/bad things to say about All Pro Off Road. Thanks

You ordered SAW T bars from NWOR?
I got mine from Performance Products for $99 last year, and they are up to $108 this year.
That is still a deal for new front springs.

If you check out our Tech section, you will see an article by member Toddski who has a 1st gen 4Runner.

He used the Rancho AALs on his rig to raise it up.
I think it's a little higher than stock.

Other than that, some of the guy's who have leafs in the back will chime in and let you know what replacement ones are available if you want to change out the whole spring pack.

I am not up on that since I run coils in the rear.

No, I haven't ordered anything from NWOR, I had been thinking about ordering some rear leaf springs from them though till I read Dr. Z's thread.

The problem that I see with All Pro Off Roader is that the Rear Leafs they carry are longer than stock and I don't want to move my brakets. I was how ever impressed they give the spring constant (k) for thier springs. Very professional in my opinion, but it may just be that I'm in my 4th and final Calculas class (THANK GOD!! ) and I have to solve for stuff like that.

So I guess I'm still looking for some place that carries 1-2 inch lift springs for stock rigs.

I had the saggy butt on my '86 too. I went the cheap route and got some Rancho add-a-leafs. Worked great!

At first the rear was slightly higher than the front but after a couple of days it settled to a level height.

If you want it higher in the rear, I suggest either a 1" block (no more) or extended shackles in addition to the add-a-leaf.

I imagine the AALs won't cost you much more than $50 - $60 for the pair.

Good luck,

Warren

I've heard of the add-a-leafs, did they make your ride alot stiffer or was it okay? Would you say that your front and back wheel wells are about even in height, or that there is the same distance between the top of tire and fender?

The ride seemed to be a little better actually since my rear springs were pretty flat before the AAL.

When I first installed the AALs the distance between the fender and tire tops was about the same front to rear. (which would mean the back was higher due to the extra cut-away of the front fenders as you mentioned.)

After a couple of days they settled to actual level. I actually wish they didn't settle 'cause I kind of liked the extra inch or two in the back.

That's why I also recommended the shackles or block since you wanted it higher in the rear.

You could always put the leafs in and then extend the shackles later if you like.

Good luck,

Warren

Thats a good idea, I like the fact that longer shackels will give lift and more articulation. If I may ask how much did your AAL run you?

I don't mind. But I'm Canadian so they were $89 C.

At today's exchange rate of about 1.488 they should be about $59.73 for you

Not sure about the shackles but they would be much better than a block.

Regards,

Warren

Alcan, best springs ever. More expensive than your off the shelf variety but they're built to order so you get exactly what you want and they last.

That is a sweet oportunity, truely custom springs I haven't finished looking at the whole site, but do they go over prices or would I need to give them a call?

gotta call for a quote, and they'll need info on the weight over the axle and your intended usage (hauling or crawling)

Indirectly through the now defunct Rocky Mountain Off Road, previous owner is now running AOR4x4.com but if you want stuff soon don't even bother going through them. If you haven't added anything non-stock then they should already know the basic specs needed. I'm running a 200+ pound bumper, ~200lb shell, and gas and 33" spare tire on the bumper and they ride and flex great. I'll be buying a full set of 4" springs from them in the next couple months for my SAS.

So don't go through AOR4x4.com or don't go through Alcan Springs...?

How long have you had yours?

My last order from AOR took over 3 months for some simple brackets and a u-bolt flip kit, and from countless calls and emails I only got a single response via email saying that it was shipping out the following week. I finally got the stuff about 6 weeks later. They charge your card the moment you place the order...

I've had my Alcan springs about 3 years now I think, mabye more. I've flexed the crap out of them offroad and haven't had a single problem with them other than a sheared center pin. But that was the fault of loose u-bolts and rough wheeling.
