where to get 3rd gen starter cheap??
As of yesterday ,
my 97' 4runner starter is now dead. It takes over 400-600 amps to turn it over. So I am on a quest to get a re-manufactored or new starter. The problome is thta most places in Hawaii want over $200 to get me one. Is there anywhere online that you people know of being cheap??? Thanks and aloha.

Might try pulling it apart and see what parts are worn....if it is just the brushes then you may be able to rebuild but if the armature is gone then you will most likely have to buy new or another used one. They are quite heavy so I imagine a junkyard in the US mainland wouldn't be of much help either.

I live in Kalihi, but work in Pearl City. how much did you pay? I know JAWs on Sand Island is cheap. But Im gonna try call in some contacts I got through work and find a cheaper deal. Damn, all this money wasted on the starter, it was supposed to be a Tru-Track by the end of this month.

rebuild it????That might be a prospective I might look into. I was saving money to do my Detriot Tru-Track. Damn, who knew a starter is so important.

i cant remember how much i paid, i have to find the invoice, it was probably around the 200 ish area like most people ask for. if i had a thought about rebulding it i would have done so, the one i bought was rebuilt. rebuilding is probably the best way to go.
