Where Do Tacomas Go?

I don't know what the deal is with Tacomas, but I was looking for some interior parts for my Tacoma, and have called every auto salvage place within a 100mile radius, and not ONE has a Tacoma.......... I even went onto car-part.com and they have nothing......... Do people just eat their trucks after they wreck them or what?

Sorry bad joke, but where the heck do they all go?

Maybe there just aren't that many in your area that have gotten messed up enough to end up in a scrap yard?

That's a good question. I found one place in my work area two counties over in the middle of nowhere that has tacomas. I stopped in the first time and asked about getting a plastic piece off of the front grill under the headlight. One of mine was missing when I bought it. I initially asked if he had some tacomas and was told yes. When I explained what I needed, the guy there acted like I didn't what I was talking about-like I was making it up. I quickly got the hint that he didn't want to help me since it was for such a small piece, so I left.

In my stupidity, I stopped back by a couple of months later because I discovered I was missing the long piece to take down the spare tire. Again, an unwelcome response. But the guy did tell me all the jack tools are removed from the wrecks before they get them.

Hopefully if you can find a place that has tacomas, you will be more successful and welcomed than I was.

Changing the subject just slightly. Prior to getting my Taco two weeks ago, I never saw a Tacoma on the road. Now they are everywhere I look. I have waved to a few drivers, but most just keep on going. I guess there isn't that fraternal bond like Jeep owners or Harley owners have? Or, am I waving at morons who just don't have a clue?

i was looking for jeep wrangler parts a few years ago... went to 20 local yards! no one had anything.... well i eventually heard of a place by word of mouth, that their was a yard that specializesi in jeeps only... what i was told was that at auction for the wrecks, this place outbids everyone so they can effectively be a monopoly and charge whatever they want fo r the piece you need... no competition means you have to pay what they want....

the guys that actually wheel around here all wave at each other. mostly 1st and 2nd gen truck people, though.

toyotas are in high demand in the parts world. you don't see many tacomas and NEVER see '79-85 trucks in junkyards here. to find the reason, check the want ads. there's places wanting "79-85 toyota pickups and celicas, wrecked, running or not", usually find at least 5 or 6 of these in the buy 'n sell. they're yards that buy trucks off clueless people, part them out, then charge through the nose for it

Thanks. I have been using that handle for 15 years. You wouldn't believe how hard it has gotten to use it. I have had maybe 20 variations over the last 5 years. For the first ten, I could simply be shinerbock. Now I have been shiner5, shinerbockbeergood1974, shiner52, shinerbock1, etc.

Thanks.

Well there might not be that many around me, but I did a pretty wide search and found nothing. I guess I am just SOL.

One thing about trucks in general and Toyotas in particular is that since they are built to be stronger/more dependable/longer lasting than other vehicles, they rarely turn up in scrapyards. When they do, they tend to get parted out, rather than sitting in the yard where you can pull stuff off of them.

My experience with yards that part out their wrecks (rather than letting customers pull parts) is that the parts are a ripoff anyway.

California Mini Trucks, it is a toyota truck dismantler. 909-622-1381. They have rare parts for Toyota trucks, so give them a call. It is in montclair, but I am sure they will ship.

The plastic piece around the shifter. The origional owner before me must have had a cell phone holder, because there are screw holes in it. Still functional just looks kinda bad. Thanks guys for the help and phone #'s!
