Arrow Where and which cat to buy?

This forum has a lot of little threads covering this issue without any real answers that I could find. basically I have seen that many get the Carsound Magnaflow catalytic converter from eBay for about the best price. Right now I have the stock exhaust and only need to replace the cat, so should I get a 2.25" in case I upgrade the pipe in the future or stick with the 2"? I would als rather not get it from eBay as I would like to possible get it this week. Any other suggestions?

I am now wondering if a bad cat could be one of the culperits for many of my problems. I just had to rebuild my engine because of a burnt up exhaust valve. Also I had the sulfur smell for about a year or more before this problem. Now that I have my rebuilt engine in, I have no power (nuther thread) under load. Any of this sound possible from a bad neglected cat?

being that this thread got as much attention as all the others that I found in the search... I figured I would at least update what I did.

The Muffler Shoppe had the cheapest Carsound Magnaflow I could find. It would have been $56 but I paid an extra $19 to get it here quicker. $75 for a freeflow cat delivered is good for me!

The symptoms that are making me get a new one, was the sulfur smell, bad exhaust valve, and loss of power under load.

I pulled the O2 sensor this evening to release the back pressure and it had power again! So I will be switching out the cat this Friday and I will update you then.

I've got the Magnaflow cat and sometimes I get a sulphur smell whenever I come to a stop after driving at high speeds. I didn't have this until I put my cat and muffler on. Since the muffler has nothing to do with emissions, then that leaves the cat. I've also heard dynomax has a high-flow cat that's pretty cheap.

That can also be gas dependent. Mine was all the time no mater where I got my gas, though. I am also getting <200 miles to the tank when I used to get almost 300, which is another indication.

I am not understanding your post very well, why are you getting less than 200 miles?

Having that high of back pressure causes your engine to be not near as efficient. It's like sticking a banana in the tail pipe.

Final Update

The link above to the mufler shoppe on ebay hooked me up well! He got it to me in the time crunch that I asked for and had very communication. Even answered any questions I had about it. IN any cas I got the thing installed last night and I must say I am back to being a 3.slow again. Now just waiting for money to do over sized valves, headers, 2.25 pipe/muffler/cat and I'll be in business.
