when was the first double cab?

I was in one of my classes the other night and we were discussing the issue of the genocide that occured in Rowanda in the early 90's, and after the lecture the professor put on a video. The video itself was really interesting and I learned alot from it. I had no idea about anything that had happened because back then i was like 12.

At any rate, during the video I noticed something that i found odd. There was a clip of some guerilla fighters who were riding around packed into the bed of what was clearly a double cab toyota pickup. I recognized it immediately, but it confused me a little. The video couldn't have been made much later than 1994, and I seriously doubt that the RPA had a budget for a fleet of brand new pickups.

So my question for you is, when was the first double cab pickup available from toyota? I'm sure that it would have had to have been atleast in the very early 90's and was probably only available overseas.

I guess it doesn't really matter, but I'm just curious...

-Keith

The one I saw looked like it was about the same generation as what would have been in production at the time. I'm not too familiar with the different models of Toy trucks, and I had never seen a double cab in anything but the most recent generation of Tacomas (not the upcoming one, the current one).

Thanks for all the replies ya'll.

Its funny you posted that Bob. I had one night flight stay over in Karachi, Pakistan back in 1995 and on the drive to the hotel I saw one driving down the street. It had a missle launcher mounted in the back of it. I have no idea if it was surface to air or surface to surface. But that was one scary site to see guys who can't even read or write having that kind of power at the push of a button.
