Wheel/Tires...irritating conundrum...

Ok, I've got a 2000 4Runner SR5. The sticker on the door shows 15" wheels, but I've got 16's on it now. They're factory rims, so I'm assuming the buyer had the upgraded wheels. From what I've been able to find, because I've got the 16's, I can't put 15's on it due to brake issues. Just trying to verify this is true...

Second, what the heck is up with tire sizes and pricing? On Tirerack.com, 265/75/16 BFG AT is $168, but a 32/11.5/15 is $131. WHY? Why are "english" sizes (32, 33, 35, etc.) so much cheaper than metric (265, 285, etc.)? I mean, for these tires, the difference is almost 50%!

That's why I'm curious about getting 15" wheels. I can get 4 15" steelies, and 4 32x11.50/15's for less than just 4 265/75/16's (BFG AT's).

Of all my research, I cannot find out why english are so much cheaper than metric. WHY?

I'm in the same boat. My door sticker says 15" but I've got 16's and big brakes. My understanding is that the Big Tire Package (16'' wheels, bigger brakes) was available from the factory (with door sticker indicating 16" wheels) but Toyota also added some as upgrades when they unloaded the 4runners off the boats in North America (hence, the factory sticker does not match with what was actually delivered to the dealership)

As for the price of tires, your guess is as good as mine why the 16" tires cost so much more. There is a solution though. Wheelers Offroad sells 15" wheels that I've heard clear the brake calipers. http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/4runnerwheels.htm A couple people on here have these wheels ( this thread comes to mind, https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...thread+finally I'm sure there are others)

For some odd reason, the bigger the radius of the tire that you go, the more expensive the tire.....so if you got a set of 4 tires that were 33s but were made for a 16 inch rim, might be more expensive than say 4 tires that were 35s but were made for a 15 inch rim....which I dont get since you are paying for less tire in my opinion since the bigger the hole, the more expensive.....correct me if im wrong on this guys.
