What's Wrong with my Truck?

Hey all, I have been doing some reading around the forums about mileage, especially with a supercharger, and I am amazed! I have a 1998 Supercharged Taco, automatic, and driving pretty conservativally around town, I am getting about 13.5 mpg. Seems to me that this isnt great, especially at $3.50/gal. Driving with my foot in it occasionally, I will get about 11mpg. On the highway, i get anywhere between 19 and 22 depending on the wind, which seems normal. Any ideas on what could be giving me the crappy mileage around town, but not on the highway? Thanks!

Anytime you let this motor get over 2500 rpm it is going to suck down more gas. With a supercharger...I bet it is hard to not let that happen.

True, but perhaps I should be a bit more specific. Driving conservativally= costing to a stop, starting easy, and letting it shift around 1800 and rarely over 2000. Driving with my foot in it=pretty quick starts, shifting between 2,200 and 3,000.

Along with Elton's question, how long are you letting the truck warm up before driving it?

I live in a pretty small town (~9,000), so anywhere I go, the truck really doesn't get a chance to warm up. Other mods include, to my knowledge, TRD headers, and an aftermarket muffler. I bought the truck in December with 99,970 miles and it now has around 105,000. I haven't done any mods to the truck except go with full synthetic engine oil, and rear-differential oil. Synthetic ATF, X-case, and front diff are on the way.

What size tires are you running?

Any fuel mods or is the supercharger using stock fuel regulation?

around town your 4runner should get about 11 to 15mpg, sry to break it to you, and highway sounds about right, plus you have the supercharger so your getting the worse gas mileage. I'm assuming you have a 3.0 or 3.4. If you want to get some better gas mileage get the Tornado fuel saver, Its 150 smackers but it will give you 1-4 miles better around town and on the highway, and let your truck warm up, you wont regret it, it helps alot.

Yeah, I have the 3.4. I don't know about fuel regulation. The guy I bought it from said it was tuned correctly. I suppose it could be running a bit rich. I am at about 4,000 feet here, but this is the altitude where the truck was tuned. I got an air/fuel gauge with the truck, but it isn't installed, and I don't know how to install it. Not 100% sure on the tires. They are BFG A/T, and I think they are 265's?

X2. waste of money in my opinion. If your truck isnt warming up all the way, thats the mileage you should expect to get, supercharged or not. Short trips really kill you in mileage

I wasn't trying to call you out or anything, my apologies if you felt you were being attacked, I just wanted to point out that the Tornado is a bad investment, that's all.
