What's this worth?

1998 Toyota Pickup 4x4 Ext. Cab with 155K miles. It seems to be in perfect running condition with little to now rust at all. The A/C works too!

What do ya'll think it's worth?

Wow that is a lot of miles. As long as the owner can substantiate all repairs with receipts I'd say it would be worth about $1000 less than what the bluebook is for a high mileage tacoma. Seriously - its a Toyota so it will last a long time but I'd give the driveline and suspension a complete lookover. Things like u-joints, clutch, cv-joints, and brakes can become a bother if they all start going out close to each other.

High Miles?? What? Normal miles would be in the 200K+ range. That's low miles. Agree about the rest of the stuff though. What are you saying on the price? I don't understand what you mean there.

155000 miles on a 5 year old vehicle is a lot to me.

I'm pretty sure that's a typo.... I think he's trying to say 1988 not 1998.

I'm guessing only because he brings up the topic of rust. Don't think we'd see any rust on a 98 unless the owner really messed up! hehe

Yes, I meant to say 1988, not 1998. Sorry about that!
Anyone have any idea?

Victor is referring to the Kelley Blue Book, which is what the dealers go by to set the base _resale_ value of the car. There's also a "red book" which is the wholesale value.

You can check the bluebook value online: http://www.kbb.com/

You didn't mention which engine it had in it, or if it was a 5 speed or auto, but when I optioned it out as:
  • 1988 Toyota Pickup Deluxe Xtra Cab
  • Engine: 4-Cyl. 2.4 Liter
  • Trans: 5 Speed Manual
  • Drive: 4 Wheel Drive
  • Mileage: 155,000
  • Air Conditioning
  • AM/FM Stereo
  • Good condition
...and put it in my local zip code, Kelley has it valued at $2,695

If you do buy it make sure that you can contact the guy you bought it from to get him so sign off on registration that you paid that much for it. I payed 2000$ for my 1990. The courthouse wanted me to pay them taxes on a 6xxx$ vehicle.... Just delayed me getting it registered for about a month so that I could get the guy 2 states over to have it signed and notorized that i payed 2000$ for it.

Sounds like a good amount of mileage. Hehe - everytime I buy a car cash I tell the tax man I paid $500 or less. They don't check on that here.

shoulda done that, too late now. when i bought my truck it only had 136,xxx on it. No more leaking of engine runs real good now that I spent a weekend doing maintenance on it. Matter of fact my buddy said my truck runs too quiet now that I did the maintenance on it... If you do get the truck check replace everything, and if its got a 22r or 22re engine with a single row timing chain in it make sure to check it.

EDIT: Check the timing chain guides that is.

1988 Toyota 4Runner 2.4l 4cyl, 150k, 3" body lift, 33" Conti-Trac Mud terrains, steel horse light bar and side step ups

Bought Feb last year for $2,900 cash

That's mine...The frame was in really good shape and so was everything else considering the year and the mileage...and it also came with all the reciepts of everything the owner had done while he had it...
