What's involved in 3.4 engine R&R?

Looking into replacing my 3.4 soon and am curious if anyone here has done this yet. If so, do you have to remove the radiator support etc? Can I leave the automatic tranny in chassis or should it remain attached to the engine? Any tips or info is appreciated.

Hey bud. Just finished that up in my garage last month. Started out thinking I needed to replace head gaskets. By the time I got the heads off, w 200,000 miles I thought I would rebuild the bottom end. I left my radiator in, hood on, unbolted the tranny and lifted the block out with 2 buddies with our bare hands! I ended up picking a used engine up on ebay for $600 loaded and shipped. It was going to be way more expensive to rebuild. The engine still had cross-hatched cylinder walls though. Wow! When replacing we removed the hood and used a cherrypicker since it went back in in one piece. Radiator never came out. Don't forget to line up and place the torque converter on your transmission first instead of bolted to the flywheel. You bolt the torque converter to the flywheel after the engine is installed. I guess I was lucky I didn't mess up my seals when I lifted the engine out cause I left it attached to the engine. I don't think It would be easy if the transmission was attached. Hope this helps!
