What's the deal with the Venom 400?

There's a guy who has one that wants to sell me his. He says that it doesn't work really well with his auto tranny. I can get it for about $200, maybe less. The question is, is it worth it?

I looked into those when they first came out and it was my understanding that they were better suited for the auto's since the computer would modify the shift points based on the modified sensor values from the Venom 400. That is why I never really looked in to them further since I have a manual tranny.

I did stick one in my auto tranny Runner. I did feel a heavy kick seat of the pants HP boost, but it was very strange as I could not tell when it was going to kick in...at the mercy of when the tranny wants it to...not my foot. As far a power boost, I liked it, but it felt too unpredictable, like kicking in when I really wanted just a smoother acceleration. I personally feel it would be better suited to a standard shift where you can determine what gear you want it to kick in...IMO

I've got one on my truck, 22re 5spd. Its not really what I expected but it does work pretty good. It works on the MAF, TPS, and determines when to kick in by the position of your TPS and how much air is going through your MAF. It doesn't run constantly but when you do punch it, it does seem to as the other guy said, kick. Its made more for racing acceleration and not for offroad crawling.

I have one that's about a year(?) old, but only been used about 5 times. I could definitely feel a boost, but never bothered to check how much performance I had gained. Sheer laziness is what kept me from using it too much. The on/off switch is on the unit itself which is kept in the engine. When I got my new short block(compliments of Toyota) I took it out and it's sitting in my garage right now. Yeah, I know I'm lazy.

I bought it new for $270 and I'll sell it to you for $100 if you are interested. I just don't really have no need for it. I can take pictures of where everything goes if you need to.
