What's the biggest tranny cooler that will fit...

95.5 Tacoma 2.7L AT. I'd like to load the bed with wood and possibly tow a small trailer several times/yr. I've been told I should get the biggest tranny cooler that will fit into my truck.

Can someone tell me what that is? My mechanic lives in a different town and I am taking the truck and parts to him.

Thanks

Could maybe look into the 3.0 v6 radiators although you may have to mod some stuff to put it in. They come with a tranny cooler built into the radiator that or just get a mid size perma cool or similar one. You dont need a really BIG one. and as for fit the size of the cooler itself doesnt really matter as you can make just about anything fit

It cools the tranny just like how a radiator cools the coolant

I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear. I was looking for someone to tell me the biggest one I can fit into my truck size-wise. I know what they do, thanks to this forum!

I'm not at all knowledgeable about this stuff, but will get the part and take it to my mechanic, which is why I'm looking for basically a part number, not modification suggestions.

I've seen a Tru Cool 4543 Fin and Plate kit 3/8 barbs, recommended for GVW 20,000. It's 7 1/4 x 11 x 3/4....

Do I have enough room for this one in a 95.5 Tacoma 2.7L AT?

Thanks!

You can mount one right in front of the radiator. You could go with a smaller one but I know you can make that fit if thats what you want.

Thanks!

Do you think a smaller one would work to haul and possibly tow? A smaller Hayden is rated to tow 2,500 lbs. and when I called them, they said I had to much bigger than that??

How much do you plan to tow with that motor as far as weight wise? I dont really see you having too big of a problem with what you have right now just as long as you dont try to pull somthing that truck shouldnt be.

I may have my bed full of wood and pull a 4x4 tractor, so I'm guessing it would be around 3,000 lbs. max. but the light duty cooler is recommended for 2,500. I spoke with a dealer and he said the medium would be too small and that I need to get the biggest one that will fit in my truck...he sounded very emphatic!

Bust out the tape measure and find out! The height, length, depth combinations are many.....Just find one that works for your application. I bought mine from Summit. It's a nice Flex a lite cooler. 35 bucks shipped

Like Dirtoyboy said

You really can buy as big of a cooler as you want. It's just having the place to put it. Measure the space you have behind your grill and in front of your radiator that would accomidate a cooler. Once you know how much space you have just find one that's right for you budget.

That should fit fine, I have the Tru Cool 4544 and its listed as the same size.

They are great coolers, low pressure drop and automatic by-pass for cold weather. They also cool better than the Hayden. If your installer is good he might be able to fit a slightly bigger one, heck you could even fit 2 or 3 of them in if you really try hard but I wouldn't recommend it because it blocks too much of the radiator air flow. I've found the coolant and engine oil need more help with cooling than the ATF.

Thanks everyone, as always, this has been really helpful. Just ordered the Tru Cool 4544 as well, though noticed it's a little larger, ( 9 1/2) than the one I previously saw. Hope this fits!
