Hey to all, just stopped by a Jiffylube and asked about changing my trans fluid. Asked if they used or offered synthetic and the tech stated they use "T-5" which was better than synthetic. Looking for comments or advice on what this is or what to change to. My shifts seem a little long. I drive a 2000 SR5, 3.4 with 50,500 miles thanks in advance. EDH

I don' know what the "T-5" is, but I use the Amsoil tranny fluid and it's great! The price is high, but well worth it for the protection.

I used Mobil1 Synthetic. You will need approx 16 qts to do a complete flush. I am not sure if there is a write-up in the maintenance section, I followed this procedure and it worked well.

Just curious, but where did you purchase your Mobil 1 ATF Fluid? Also, what do you drive? I looked at AMSOIL's website and it said that my 2003 Tacoma with an auto tranny took only 6.9 quarts with a flush. Where did you get your 16qt number? Is that how much they put in there?

Thanks, I looked at the link, I thought the automatic didn't have a "filter" just a "screen"? EDH

I use Mobil 1 ATF too. It is very easy to find here, Autozone has it. Mine took 16 quarts too, I think that is fairly common for any auto tranny.

i wouldnt recommend redline. maybe because the tranny is old, but i get crunch when shifting into 3rd cold. after it warms up it is great though. ive been considering draining the redline and putting it into the differentials. (btw, 9 quarts for my 89 V6 5spd, tranny and transfer only)

6.9 quarts for a drain and refill, there's a lot more hiding in the torque converter and the cooler lines

Hi, Ive always done a drain and fill, and every 3rd time pulled the filter just to check it. I have never put more than say 5 quarts in mine. How do you drain the T. converter and lines without taking the trans out of the truck? Im confused! If I can flush it all out I will, I do not need trans problems and the TC fluid is original with 150,000 miles on it at this point because I didnt know you could change it

I use Moble 1 full snythetic because it last forever and isn't as affected by temperature.

The little fast lube places have flush machines to replace all the ATF at once.

Everytime you did your drain and refill you changed about 1/3 of your total ATF. If you do that 3 or 4 times and drive in between the changes you have replaced most of the original ATF.

the steps for a complete flush are included in the link to Amsoil above. You just unplug the cooler lines and refill as it drains out

OK, to all thanks I learned a lot. Now here's a test question, Using the drain and fill method (which only takes out 5-6 quarts of tranny fluid)
Could you add full synthetic as the refill? after two drain and fills eventually be running full synthetic? Would it be ok to mix the fluids and if so which synthetic would you use? I'm sure this will generate some comments. thanks in advance. EDH

well its kinda like a radioactive half life. say total is 12 quarts, drain 6. fill with sys, running 50% syn. drain half, fill with syn then you're at say 75%. drain half fill with syn, then you're at 87% syn, I suppose there is formula but hey, I'm lazy

Yeah im about to do a flush doon. My local lube place is chargin a tranny flush and add 15qts for $120. Id like to go amsoil but is amsoil really that better from mobil 1? I mean its a PITA ordering amsoils products and the cost alone for amsoil is about 120 alone. So I was considering the mobil 1 atf+ flush.
