what tire size do most ppl run on their rigs?

I have a 1990 4runner 4wd with a 2" body lift. I'm running the stock 16" wheels from a newer sequoia/tundra 16x7

I want something around 32's but I not sure what the size will be. I dont think they sell sizes like 32 1150 in 16" diameter sizes. I want beefy tires. not skinny ones that will look weird with my lift.

also whats the largest tires I can run without rubbing issues?

265 75 R16 = about 31.6 x 10.4" depending on the tire brand.
A 32 x 11.5" bfg all terrain is actually 31.7" tall, so 31.6" is basically a 32" tire.


with a 2" lift I'd say you could pretty easily fit 285's under there though.
285 75 R16 = roughly 32.8 x 11.2"

what did you have to do when you went from 15 inch wheels to 16? change the brakes or anything special? they look so much better than those puney 15's. good luck.

i didnt have to do anything to run the 16's
wheels are wheels. you just have to get the right offsets and bolt pattern. and choose tires that will not cause rubbing.

you can put 20's on your 4runner if you even wanted.

I'm actually running 17" stock toyota wheels from a new tundra limited right now. I'm about to swap those over to my sequoia, and take the sequoia 16's.

When I bought new wheels for my Sequoia, I mounted the old '01 Sequoia wheels on my '91 4Runner. They are 16" and the fit perfectly!! Also went with 275-75-16 Nitto AT's... no lift on 4Runner and they are 31.68" tall. No rubbing and they look really good!

Being the red neck that I am, I dont get the non traditional system of tire mesurement (31, 33, 35, 38, 44s...). Will some one explain this to me?

I'm glad someone else asked that first, any takers? I'm running the stock wheels on a '93 4Runner, how big a tire can I buy? 32"? If anyone wants to offer a Tires 101 class, I'd be appreciative.

275 is tread width in millimeters

75 is the apect ratio percentage of sidewall to tread width

16 is the diameter of the rim

here is a formula to figure out total outside diameter (converting to the standard 31x10.5x15 size type measurement)

(75% of 275 mm = 206.25) x 2
25.4 (as there are about 25.4 mm in 1 inch)

now multiply that result by 2 and you have the full sidewal height (mutiplied by 2 because there is a top and bottom area of the rim as its surronded with sidewall

add the 16" rim

the tire size of 275/75/16 equates to being a 32.24" outside diameter/tall tire

the width is 275 mm, so that would and can be converted like this:

275 (tread width in mm)
25.4 (mm per inch)

this part doesnt look like an equation but it is: 275 divided by 25.4 = 10.82" wide

275/75/16 = 32.5x10.8x16 or very close

cause someone thought that metric would be easier.. multiples of 10 based off a metre. can't remember how they came up with what should be a metre, but i do remember that it was some non-scientific, really stupid way..

Based off this site your days are numbered till your forced to learn the metric system too.
