Huh? No, a dovetail is when you narrow the rear body panels to give more clearance.

For instance

And a stinger is meant to keep the truck from flipping over forward. Its a big hoop that sticks out in front of the bumper. here are some pics

Uasually they are custom made for that rigs approach and departure angles too. Pretty handy for the driver.

Idealy, the stinger should be a gauge of your trucks approach angle while stoping it from an end over end type roll over.

Some wheelers however us it to compensate for their man-hood

Usually, stingers are at a 45 degree angle. A comp Stinger should measure about 36 inches from the mouting surface to the top bend. Sport stingers are around 26" inches.

I've dovetailed my front end and made my own stinger and between the 2 the front end is about taken care of. Another big advantage is a tie off point on the front for a ballast. Like a spotter.

They are invaluable IMO to the appropriate rig. But like fake beadlocks are pretty useless on most rigs.

In Ontario, "Stinger" is a brand name of a Highyway Service Truck's Rear impact delector. It consists of one or two metal hoops that appear to be designed to absord the impact energy by collapsing. Noticed recently that most the highway service trucks I've seen lately all have them mounted.
Sorry, no pics...
