What Spring Compressor would you get for removing rear coils? ('99 Runner)
I'm getting ready to install my air lift setup in the rear coils to help out towing my 40, and instead of paying a shop $100-150 to do it I figure I'd just buy my own compressor. I need something to use specifically on the back coils, note that I have 3" of lift with the OME's back there. I'm not too concerned with removing the front coils, those come out pretty easy without a compressor, and I can have my buddy do the hard stuff with his bench mounted one.

Like Jim said. In addition, place a floor jack under the diff (while the frame is already on jackstands) and lift slightly. Undo the lower shock mounts and allow the jack to slowly drop the entire axle. The truck will naturally need to be sitting high enough on the stands to allow this. Once the axle is pretty much as low as it will go, leave it on the jack. Then have a helper push down on one side of the axle. At that point, you should be able to manhandle the coil out of that saide. Repeat for the other side. When you reinstall the coils, make sure the bottom end of the coil seats properly in the cup recess.

Sorry, I should've gone into a little more detail. The setup I'm puting in is the Airlift one that has bags that go into the coils. So I wasn't planning on taking the shocks off.
aowRS - That sounds kind of like how I did it when I originally put the lift on, but that was with the vehicle on a lift, and I had a nice tranny stand to hold the axle up. (wish my buddy still worked there :cry: ) I didn't really think it would be posible on the floor of my garage to get the body high enough..... but now you got me thinking. I think I'll go back and see how high my jack stands go and see if it is feasible.

Similar to aowRS (note disconnect the sway bar end links)
Use two jack stands. Disconnect both sway bar end links from the axle. Disconnect the shocks from lower mounts. Raise by putting a jack under the diff, and support the truck by the jackstands on the frame in front of the rear wheels. Now lower the jack. The axle should be floating if its high enough, removing both rear tires will help. Move the jack to the lower shock mount on one side and raise the axle. The other side will drop and the spring is loose.
Be careful not to stretch/break the hydraulic brake line located above the diff.
Notice there are holes in the bumper just above/behind the mudflaps...These are a great place to install the air valve stems.
