Hi All

This summer I will be setting out on an overland trip thats going to take me a long way from a Toyota spare parts store, So I was wondering what parts you guys would recommend I should carry, I've already put together a small list from various threads here on yotatech, so let me know what you reckon I should take.

BTW my 4runner has 92,000 miles on it and i will be doing the cam belt and water pump before I leave as a precaution.(and keeping the old ones as spares as the belt has only 30,000 miles on it)

List looks good- if it were me, i'd be carrying basic hand tools, and maybe some tire repair tools. $10 will get you what you need for plugs/stems/etc... just thinking out loud.
safety stuff- first aid kit, fire extinguisher, tow strap/rope and comealong (or winch if you got it).

now that i think of it, there was a thread about the amount of stuff guys carry with them ALL the time- probably about a month old... that'd be a great list to go off. good luck!

So it was mainly spare part suggestions I was after as I "think" i have most of the other stuff covered.

For your electrical kit, add a few butt connectors and then a good crimper/stripper and you are good to go. Oh and an OHLM Volt meter would prolly be a good idea.

Various grade 10 metric bolts as well as grade 10 nuts and plates/washers as well. I think you can even buy a metric bolt kit and even though it isn;t grade 10 it will get you out in a pinch!

Lastly a tarp, heavy duty garbage bags and ziplocks. They always come in handy!

welome fellow bc'er! sounds like youve got most of the essentials down. might also want to consider adding a manual to the list...you never know if something comes up that you dont/wont know how to fix.

where ya heading to? if it includes alot of rough wheeling, definitely add U-joints and all necessary tools to replace em. a spare front axle would be easier/quicker to swap out than trying to fix the boot/cv joint out on the field.

dont forget gloves & a tarp or something, because working on wet/muddy/snowy ground sucks...

also might want to add some sort of communication to the list. CB and/or FRS should suffice.

Thanks for the suggestions, I was thinking of U joints but are they all the same or would i have to carry a few to cover both ends?

I already own the Toyota factory manuals for the 99 4runner so they will be in the kit plus i have tarps etc as for communication I'm going with a sat phone.

As for the type of trip its a sort of road and wheeling trip as I'm shipping the 4runner over to Russia then heading through Mongolia, kazakhstan and then on to Europe and ending in London england for winter then 2009 shipping to the east coast heading back across Canada.

So its going to be a combination of roads, dirt roads, no roads, river crossing and one hell of an adventure so just trying to pack as much insurance parts wise as i can reasonably carry (but don't want to end up with a 6000lb 4runner!)

How many are going? Pics of your rig are always nice, as I'm sure to be able to go on a trip like this you have to have a pretty stout truck!

Just finishing up the rig now, so ill post pics as soon as its done which should be a week or 2, theres just the 2 of us going me and my girlfriend and yes i do have a shovel

I'd take a spare alternator and a spare, probably deep-cycle battery instead of the jump box...you can start from it AND run on it. Might consider a fuel pump...they're relatively easy to change in the field on a 4R.

where u goin, the us of a? lol. just be careful with plugs... they leak VERY easily. and get it fixed correctly ASAP. other than that, watch out for elk or whatever you guys have up there, and have a safe trip!

ROPE. Good, sturdy, rope. 50 yards each of nylon and cotton. Don't really foresee a need for it, but it's cheap and ALWAYS a great idea. Other than that, sounds like you have a good handle on things. Spare water and food is usually a good idea too.
