I put on a set of Tokico Trekmasters last year, and they are good on road. They are a little stiffer than the stock shocks, but it rides much better in my opinion. You can get a set for around 200 bucks, check ebay.

I never do any off roading, except in the sand at the beach, if you want to call that off roading. It's actually bouncier going over the ruts and tire tracks in the sand. The original shocks were smoother. It could be the pp springs though. The on road feel is much better with the trekmasters, feels firmer with less sway. Here's a link to the ebay site, it gives a brief description.
