what is this half junk/half awesome 4runner worth ?

1999 4runner Limited, Loaded
-------------------------------
4x4 automatic with Locker, moonroof, 16's, hitch, leather, wood grain
fog lights

150,000 miles
-----
has been rolled at 19,000 miles. airbags never went off. it was a very slow rollover into a snowbank, slid off an icy hill, single vehicle accident at 8 miles per hour.
damn greasy snow....so i got loads of bodywork done

new roof, 3 doors, hood, fenders, repainted. and that repaint wasn't so
good it is showing now, 7 years later, and now it is failing. so forget looks. it looks like ass
-----

rear liftgate has dent. big dent. i slid into a plow while wheeling. window still works though and bugs and water do not get in.

-----
so what has been done ?
all this installed after 131,000 miles (last year)

all new front brake calipers and rotors, all new rear drums and brake guts incl e brake pivots

new muffler and pipe

new rear heater water pipes

new starter

92% new Michelin LTX-MS

new air fuel sensor and new o2 sensor, no codes, I/M completes and is fine

new rear axle seals and bearings

new rear shocks (cheap napa)

new front sway links

it keeps front end alignment just fine.
-----

every possible function on the vehicle works great except ONE thing

when going from, or to, 4wd lo crawl gear, sometimes it is still
spinning and you cannot shift between 4hi-lo without turning off motor.
that is all.

locker works, 4wd full time is fine, 4wd part time is fine. I use this thing
as a woods buggy and it goes great

skid plates are scraped to hell, 'cuz I wheel with it every weekend as far
as a stock 4runner can go. I do NOT dunk the axles in water though. I used to, then needed new bearings, so i stopped doing that
-------
maintenance history

it is on it's 3rd 'timing belt and full toyota 60,000 mile service.'
this included full tranny flush 15 liters and all fluids, transaxle, greases,
the works,

I have always used Mobil one 5-30 since it was new. I have oil
changed by toyota dealer every 7500-8500 miles. never went past that.

tranny is on it's 3rd full computerized power flush.
-----
ONLY serviced by toyota dealers -except- rear shock install

-----
leather seats show some good wear and cracking
-----
running boards thrown out in the trash on day 5
-----
original windshield, plenty of tiny pits and teensy 9mm crack that doesn't grow

so basically it is not a looker, it is a beater. I bought it new in dec 1998 and have been using it as my daily driver/woods buggy every damn day up to now. and I still use it.

I am wondering what it is worth as a beater 4wd 3.4 liter with locker, more
than trying to make money off it. what is it realistically worth ? The engine and all that runs fine or I would tell you what is wrong. runs quiet, always starts, gets 22.5 mpg (or better) on highway and 17-19 farting around town. can drop to 15.9 around town if you drive hills a lot.

if you want to make this a nice car you need a full paint job, undent and fix liftgate

just wondering. I may want to unload this on someone who appreciates that mechanically, it is a sound and tight rig...that looks like it has never been washed except by rain,

has had only dealers and toyota trained mechanics work on it, and it has had it's proper service

I need some loot as a down payment on a new rig.

what, 1 grand, 2 grand 50 cents, 3 grand ?

let's see a photo- but just from description I would say you would be lucky to get around $3500 from a dedicated Toyota fan. If someone really wants a rock crawler they can find shells for less but yours does have some good pieces (i.e. locker). More realistically probably around $2500 is what someone will pay for it.

Just a matter of meeting up with the right person who sees the potential....

ok pictures will be forthcoming.

I don't even need to sell it,

and I might just get a sawzall and cut the whole thing wide open and make it a true woods buggy with exposed engine, slap on fat tires, and have a great stump puller

fark me
it'll take some doing to unload this. I wanna hang onto it. will get a new rig and then make this an
unregistered dedicated rockmobile/power station/dirt worker. I got a cabin and lots of acres to
twitch trees and whatnot. what was i thinking

99 Limited's are awesome rigs, as they have a rear locker as well as a full-time 4WD. If you are clost to me, I'd be interested. Not sure how much you can really get for this. Does it have a clear title or is it branded?

It would be a fun rig to use it like you are right now - beater around town and woods. I'd say hold on to it.

What are you getting, BTW?

ok I know you are saying now you want to hang onto it, but just as info before I read the comment from Ron H saying $2500, I was also thinking $2500. So there you go, that's 2 votes for $2500. Probably not worth a lot more than that....so as you said, hang onto it, keep it as your dedicated woods beater that way you can keep the new truck out of the woods.

yeah I figured it wasn't worth a lot to anyone but original owner

'cuz it looks -well worn out- but it really isn't. you know, stick scrapes
along the side and whatnot from bushes...never been washed...

yer all correct. keep it as a woods beater and I will always have it.

for a replacement I was thinking a...don't really know, but an econobox. I already have a bronco and a few beat to hell subarus for woods buggies. I just ain't ready to commit the 4runner to a life of pure hell just yet...

yeah, take the saws all to it and mod it like it was a 1st gen with a soft removable top on it! i'd love to see a 3rd gen all open to the wilderness, but i've never seen one in bad enough shape to warrant a hack job.

i'd love to see pictures of the rig anyway, whatever you decide to do with it.

I hear you on that. I have a 95 Integra as a beater right now that gets ~36MPG on the highway. When the '09 Honda Fits come out, I will most likely pick one up.

this is on my driveway

you can see also the paint loss on the air deflector
from rubbing my ski box when gate is open

window works, the dent doesn't mess with the window ops

here you can see the paint coming off the front fender plastic

also

this is why brushguards are teh ghey

if you actually drive around brush, you will notice it scrapes
everywhere EXCEPT the brushguards. my paint on the sides and
roof is scuffed by branches.

the plastic lens of the lights in fact
is immune to branch scrapes. brushguards are sooooooooo ghey

and everything that matters is top notch.

brakes are fresh 100% best lucky long time

Better get a photobucket account before the natives get restless. Showing tiny pictures of the damage you want us to see isn't really helping.

Edit: Massachusetts? If so, I'm afraid 4Runners aren't worth too much around here, unfortunately for both of us.
