What are good brake pads?

I'm pretty happy with my Performance friction pads. TRD used to use these pads, but the contract expired, and forwhatever reason, TRD chose not to renew with Performance Friction. Despite this, I am very happy with mine. I've only had them on for about 500 miles, so they are just barely broken in, but I do see better stopping force and less brake fade. Brake fade was an issue for me with "standard" brake shop pads.

I bought a set of Hawk performance pads, mostly because they were said to have better performance like TRD's or Performance Friction but also to have very little dust. I haven't put them on yet so this isn't really of help to you, but I thought I'd throw it in there!

Hey guys,
About a month ago I replaced my front rotors and pads wutg OEM parts, and after my rig has been sitting for a little while, I always get a little brake squeal when I have to make my first stop. But, it only does it that first time, and then no more squeal. I was just wondering if any of y'all have had this happen, or what it might be attributed to. Everything works perfect, but I was just curious. Thanks for the info-

Assuming you drive a 3rd generation 4runner, I'm running the performance friction pads that can be purchased from Autozone under the part number 4364. They have a lifetime warranty, and if you want to find out why I chose them, go to Gadget's site and review his writeup on them. They have been working fine for me!

I did, the writeup goes like this:
1) Jack one side front side up
2) Remove wheel
3) Remove long pin that's located on the inside of the rotor that holds the horizontal pins in
4) Pop the horizontal pad holding pins out, pull the brake pads out, and put in the new ones.
That's all it takes! A good thing to do is bleed the brakes afterwards, and per Gadget's recommendation I use the Motive Brake Bleeder. That's all it takes!

I also installed a set of Autozone Performance Friction pads a couple weeks ago, and love them. I messed up and went with their $29 rotors, and aren't happy with them, as they were warped right out of the box. (and I torqued the rotor-to-hub bolts to spec)
I'm going to see about a refund, and get OEM ones...I've had some decent success with finding the best price online, and taking the part number and price to my local dealer, and they'll match it, so I save $ on shipping.

I will also toss in my vote for the Performance Frictions. I did mine months ago when I replaced my rotors ( I added crossdrilled rotors) due to warpage and I say the dust is no worst than the stock pads maybe less. Install is a snap, once you do one side to see how easy it is the other side will probably take you 15 mins to drop in the new pads.
