What general maintenance needs to be done?

My 99 4runner has 118k on it. I currently am running amsoil 5w-30, an the amsoil oil and air filters. I am taking it into a shop today to get the transmission flushed out and amsoil transmission fluid put in. Is there any other general maintenance things that I need to have the shop do while it's there? Maybe check the rotors/brake pads/brake fluid, and the differentials to make sure that everything is satisfactory?

You're overdue for a timing belt (it's rated for 90k), and while you're behind the front cover, the water pump should be replaced. The parts cost is about $140, but there's about 3-4 hours of labor involved which will run you an additional $250-300 or so.

Have you ever had the front or rear diff oil changed? That should be done.

What kind of driving do you do? Is it all on-road? If not, then things like axle seals, rear bearings, etc are coming up on their due.

The BEST thing that you can do is find a buddy locally that's comfortable with wrenching and learn how to do some of this stuff on your own. For example, the labor behind checking rotors, pads, etc. will be as much as the parts cost.

Investing the equivilent of one hour of labor costs ($75ish) in an all-in-one tool set from the local auto supply place will go a LONG way. The tools won't be the best you can buy, but they'll do fine while you learn about your rig.
