I've got that same button on my 85 4Runner. I can't figure out what it does either. My best guess is that it's supposed to control fog lights of some sort. My truck never had fog lights, though. A buddy of mine saw the same button in a new Ford Escape, pressed it, and fog lights turned on. He just had to have the normal headlights on first.

Well, i assume you bought it used? First try what others have suggested. Do you have fog lights in your valence? For my 99 the fog light switch is on the headlight lever itself and is a turn ring style. Pull the switch out from the dash and see if its even hooked up to anything.

Interesting that that comes off an '02. My mom has an '02 but it's a Sport Edition. I have an '01 Limited. Both have the foglight control on the same lever as the headlights. My dad has a '97 Limited and the foglights are as you show, a button to the left of the steering wheel. I wonder why the difference of location? Is yours an SR5? Or are they just all different?
