Well, I got my first yota. (1982)

I wish I had pictures, but alas I don't at the moment. Besides, she isn't much to look at. But here is the story. As you know, not to long ago I was on the lookout for a clean 4runner. Well, I found plenty of them, I just didn't feel right getting into debt for a machine right now for a variety of reasions. Fast forward a few weeks. 2 days ago I spotted this ad.

4x4 Pickups
82 TOYOTA 4x4. 110K mi. 15K new engine. Excellent running. A/C. Camp top. $2500 obo. 503-636-xxxx (1 owner since new)

I had to work on Saturday and was unable to get down to see the truck before it sold. I was very sad. But have no fear, I had been in contact with the seller. He called me later that night to tell me the seller had backed out due to a bad head gasket. I went down there to see the truck and determined that it did not have a bad head gasket. Turns out that the seller is completely ignorant of anything mechanical. It also had a few issues. Bald front tires, cracked muffler and a leaky something or other that was dripping antifreeze.

Yet, I was smitten. This thing has the original graphics and bumper and it was clear that it had NEVER been off roaded. I wanted it. The next morning I came out with a mechanic friend for a second opinion. Indeed it looks as if the head has to be pulled to fix the leak, but it is not a blown head gasket.

Well, cease it to say, it is mine. Bald front tires and all. The first thing I did was take it to the Jiffy Lube for a full fluid change (wow, uber expensive). Syth in the tranny and transfer case. She runs like a champ. This spring break I will deal with the head. Good excuse to rebuild the head with aftermarket cams.

Oh by the way, 110, 000 original miles and all records. Literally a diary of every gas fill up and repair since it came off the showroom floor. Very cool.

I will post pictures as soon as I can.

Yeah, it is small enough as it is. I will tell you though, I have no intention of big lifts or tall tires. My desire at this point is to a) keep it running and b)return the truck to it's original glory with just the minorist of mods (bumpers, engine work).

I specifically was looking for a truck that had not been wheeled. I hope to someday repaint it a deep red and reapply the decals.
