Talking Well, I did it..

I am the proud owner of a "new-to-me"
2000 SR5
37k miles, Desert Dust Pearl Color, Tow Pkg, factory E-Locker, pretty much stock. Cloth Int. I really like the 4Runner esp the Sports Editions package.
Except, up until last week. I didnt know it was the "SE" that I liked.. (HoodScoop!!)
I told the dealer, I'd hate myself if I bought the SR5 and saw it everyday with out the hoodscoop. My sales man made some phone calls, found out that this has alot of options that the SE has. He talked to his manager and said they go in halvies with me on a new hood. Paint it, install it, + get to keep the old one as well.
So I said yay!! and took it.
Thank you for all your advice and suggestions.. and know that now I'll really have even more questions to ask. Like this one.. I like the DeckPlate mod, is there a place I can find another airbox so I dont screw my stock one up?
heres a picture, more coming prolly next weekend

Congrats on the purchase, that's a sweet rig. Awesome deal on the "Highlander" hood with the dealer, that'll set it apart from the rest. Also, welcome to the world of mods and empty pocket$$$!

Now, about those tires...

I know a guy who is parting out his 4runner in Phoenix, who has some great tires, and a lift and all kinds of goodies...

That would be ME.

Sotck tire size on your rig is going to be 265/70/16. You can get away with 265/75/16 with a little rubbing on the running boards. With a lift, you can cram 285s in there

285s are popular around here. I just ordered a set of 285/75/16 Bridgestone Dueller Revos to replace my 265/75/16 BFG T/A KOs.

By the way, congrats on the new purchase.

just curious what happend to your stock suspension?
"8. 2.5" OME Lift. I need your stock suspension parts first, so I'd be willing to do this for $100 + your parts. "

and what OME lift is this? I know for landcruisers they offer "Soft Med and Hard" options for OME.

your 32" BFG's. (fits 16" wheels) these have about 50% tread left. I paid $650, I'd like to get $250 for the set.
would probably be too big without the OME lift kit right?

I had to "distroy" the rear shocks removing them, and someone stole the front suspension parts off of my car port when I was out of town. BASTARDS!

As for the 32's, I am not sure if they would fit w/o a lift. Some people get 1" spacers and run the 32's w/o any rubbing.

The OME setup I have, to be honest, I have no idea what exact settings it is. I assume MED front and rear. I bough the lift from MAX who lives in Texas. Anyone know what his old setup was? (i.e. what my setup is?)

To be honest, removing the lift is a pain in the ass. I'd reconsider the $100 that I would gain compared to the hours of work that I would have to do. It's a tough call. The lift and tires might help sell the truck, the supercharger and fuel mods wouldn't!

Don't worry, just whatever you use to cut out the hole with, start smaller than you think you need and widen it slowly until it will fit. Cut, test fit, cut, test fit, cut, test fit, until it goes in. You won't need a spare, it's an easy mod and you would have to TRY to screw it up! There's a step by step write-up in the TECH section of the forums. Hope this encourages you to go for it!

Nice Rig and good deal on the new hood!

Congratulations on your new purchase!

As far as tires go, you should be able to fit 265/75/R16 without doing any mods. Several weeks ago I finally upgraded my stock tires to Bridgestone Dueleres Revo 265/75/R16 and they definitely improved the looks and handling of my 4Runner. There is place here in Tucson on Speedway/Pantano which runs special on any set of Bridstone Duelers and you probably can get all 4 tires for under $600, including installation, balancing, etc.. They also give you a little handheld color TV by mail-in rebate, so if you need a present for someone, it will be right on the spot!

As far as deck plate mod, try to do it yourself. If you have Dremel tool or circular saw, it is virtually impossible to mess it up. But if you're really not sure you'd want to try it, let me know and maybe we can meet somewhere and I'll be more than glad to help you out .

Congrats once again!

Sweet ride! I like everything about it - except the running boards - dont worry, those will either come off by you, or by you off-roading and them getting ripped off.

Hey, have you considered this trip to Anza Borrego?

Later!

Circular saw?!?!? Man... I'd hate to see how that'd turn out. Did you maybe mean jig saw?? Hole saw maybe (for a drill)???

Try a dremel with the circle cut attachment. You cant go wrong. Just make sure you have a tight grip on the dremel, it skips as you cut through the "waffle pattern" on the backside of the airbox.
