welded front diff?

I am really disapointed in the off-road abilities of my almost stock 1st gen with IFS. Having very limited funds, and snow on the way, I am considering a lincon locker on the front. Any success stories with this? I did it to my 76' ford when everyone told me not to, and it was the best thing I ever did to it. ford pic

I do not want to go SAS, cause most of my driving is fast on old mountian roads, and I think the IFS is the way to go for speed and bumps?

Also, I have heard the 63 chevy rear springs are the best replacement for the rears of mine, is that true?

Thanks,
Lvspark

Is this a daily driver for the snow? Was your ford a daily driver in the snow? If your ford was a daily driver in the snow and it handled alright, then I don't think a 4runner will be any different.

I don't have any first hand experience with a locker, but I wouldn't have thought a locker in the front would handle well at all on the snow on streets.

Its not a daily driver. I was more refering to the strength of the Toyota front diff since I would be welding the gears together with a lincon welder for 100% locking action in the front end. It would handle terribly on the street and probably self destruct if you hit a dry spot. When used on the street, I would only lock in 1 hub, and it works decent. Off road, the fully locked front end makes a huge improvement in the places you can go. (Not recomended to lock both hubs on sidehill with slick surfaces, if you spin, your front end goes down hill real quick!)
