weird wot problem and gearing question

so driving home from a small trip today i noticed that when i downshifted into 4th gear to pass someone and slammed the gas that the rpms would go wayyy up but the car wouldnt accelerate for a few seconds then the rpms would drop. is this the clutch sticking it has almost 100k on it of teenage drivers (still good on it just a few burnouts and whatnot) or is it the ecu not being able to dump enough fuel into the s/c engine causing this? i dont have any pinging issues at call but this might just call for the urd kit.

also if i went to 4.88 gears would the car be faster? off the line? top end? waste of money? my tires are 270/75/16 but i might go to an 18 with the same size tire.

on another note we hit 2 birds on this trip at 90 mph. scary as hell and the really scary part was that we where talking about that picture of the porshe that hit the bird at over 150 and the aftermath. hit one on the grill guard (would have broken my headlight for shure if it hadnt been there) and one to the windsheild that totally but a huge crack in it which needs to be replaced now.

thanks for your time guys and gals

edit: we looked up through the sun roof when we hit the bird and it went seriously at least 70 feet in the air. the car driving on the otherside looked amazed when we past each other a few seconds later

Unless you are pouring soapy water or tranny fluid on the ground or something similar, doing burnouts is one of the most abusive things you can do to a vehicle. It stresses the entire drivetrain. If you have oversized tires to boot, you are likely slipping the clutch to get the truck moving under normal circumstances adding to the wear. So, burnouts + oversize tires on stock gears = burning up the clutch.
I'd say the clutch is about on its last legs and the reason RPMs go up is because it is losing its ability to "clutch" the flywheel and pressure plate.
Just an opinion.

My clutch crapped out recently, I had no problems with it at all until one day I pulled off a stop sign and my RPM's shot way up but the truck barely moved. It seemed like 3/4 of the power was revving the engine and 1/4 was going to the wheels. The clutch disc total (front and back together) was only about 3/32" thick, it had rubbed off the rivets, and the flywheel was slightly discolored in places and had minor cracks in it. Replace your clutch and flywheel and all related parts (buy a kit) and you will be much happier.

4.88's will give you better low end torque, better acceleration/ low end power in general, and better gas mileage if matched to the right tire size.

cool cool thanks guys. should i go with a heavy duty clutch, like a 6 disc racing one or something along those lines? i drive the truck at the track a few times per year and like goofing off with it every once in a while (burnouts are mostly done with bleach and water but rarely without it, only if i want to smoke out some rice burner)
