Water!! Help!!!
I just went through a huge mud puddle and now my engine sounds like it wants to quit running. Can somebody please let me know what to do to check or help anything?? thanks!

Throwing a code???
I remember when a member went through a puddle and it happened, they pulled the spark plugs one at a time to see if there was standing water in the cylinder....
then they blew the water out... but im not sure of the specifics or the steps... so someone might be able to help.

Well I'm guessing you didn't ingest any water unless you have a FIPK or something so I would check all your electrical connections and then pull the distributor cap off and look for water.

Oh man ya had to rub that one in eh..... I guess I should have read a little closer. If he ingested water I'm thinking it would only run like crap for a little while and that's if it didn't hydrolock.. what do you think?

He's fine (speaking from personal experience) .. pull your plugs, from one side, start the engine a few times, dry off the plugs (new ones if you have access to them), and then repeat the same thing on the other side. You will get a few lights on your dash, check them out if your really paranoid, or if everything sounds fine wait a few days and the lights will go away.
a few days later, go ahead and do the same thing I did, and pull the FIPK off, and shake your head at the $200 you just wasted on it, and be thankfull you didn't throw a rod.
good luck

Thanks for all the input guys...i just got through drivin it and the engine actually quits after it sounds like its really struggling to turn those cylinders and it runs at idle for a while...hopefully this will disappear by morning ( wishful thinking haha) but i dont know.

So how long do i have before i gotta check those plugs and the distributor cap? Like could i do it tomorrow when I have alot more time? or would problems happen in the mean time?

I don't know about you, but I would want water out of my engine before I did pretty much anything else
and as far as that wishful thinking ... thats exactly what happened with me the second day after it happened, the check engine lights went away.

Pull all intake piping, from the filter to the throttle body. I'd even pull the throttle body if it wasn't too much trouble. Might have to get a new gasket if it's been on there a while. Wipe it all out, I'm betting you have water some where in there. As someone else stated, you might try pulling the plugs on the motor, and I'd suggest pulling the EFI fuse or whatever means you have to disable fuel delivery, and crank the engine over a few times. Might put a rag over the cylinder holes (not poked IN the cyl just laying above them) to keep anything from splashing against the hood. Once you have cleaned all the water out of the intake, if it's still running like a turd, post back and we'll see if we can't think of something else.

make sure to ground the plug wires as well if you crank it over or disable the ignition circuit also. Sometimes the spark can damage ignition components if not grounded.
As mentioned before I would thoroughly clean and dry the intake at the very least.

We had alot of flooding yesterday and I drove about 8 miles through about 12-18" of water all the way home from work. at times I played around and looked like sdastg1's avatar above. engine got a little rough so I smarted up and slowed down and it got better. I don't have the deck plate mod done yet and I pulled my air filter when I got home and it was soaked. luckily it absorbed most of the water and only let a little mist into the intake. glad I stopped when I did. replaced the filter and the engine runs fine now. I thought it was kind of ironic that this thread would start and then I'd actually be thinking about it on the way home. glad I had a lift and extended diff breathers!

better today
well fellas my engine was running a little better today...it didnt die on me today...the only thing i noticed is that my idle RPMs are actually like 500 now instead of about 1000. I'm guessing that the shaking thats going on with the runner is a result of those cylinders moving alot slower than they used to at idle, or the timing is off and something needs to be done...also ,my check engine light went off today, so it turns out that wishful thinking payed off. Thanks again guys
