Thumbs down Warning NR Gauges /Performance Products

I ordered my white face gauge last month from Performance Products and recieved the NR gauges.
The holes for it was a couple milimeters off so I filed them to fit. All worked fine till I turned on my lights at night. There was only 3% to 5% lumination. I could not make out the numbers. A slight safety issue wouldn't you think.
When I contacted Performance Products I advised them about the defect and what I had to do to make it fit. The person on the line kindly advised what needed to be done for the return process.
On Dec 24th I received a call from Performance Product. They advised that NR would not accept the white gauges because it was altered. I advised that the holes didn't line up which was off by maybe a couple of milimeters, but that it was defective due to lack of transparency of the gauges. They still wouldn't take my word for it.

I also advised that many members here and other forums have had the same problems with NR gauges.

Bottom line was that Performance Products would not stand behind this product even though they have been selling it for over a year. They are willing to lose a customer rather than find a solution or help remedy the problem. They are solely passing me along to NR to deal with the problem and wiping there hands clean of this situation.
Looks like they have gotten too big for there britches.

At this time Im waiting to see if NR returns my original gauges or replace it with one that works. Obviously they are having fitting problems if they will not accept returns that have been altered. Hmm, looks like both companies know about this problem.

I've mentioned before here and elsewhere about the bad experience with NRAuto. I do find it strange PP won't back you up since you ordered from them...not NR...that's weak. Good luck.

Call your credit card company and do a charge back for a defective product.

Also, maybe it is time for all the Toyota truck guys to start an email campain on your behalf threateing a boycott. I sure don't want to be treated like you are with PP. Makes me a little nervous about ordering anything else from them. How about the rest of you???

Who is in???

Can someone set up an online petitoin where we go there and put our name down and it shows up?

I have Perf's banner in our Vendor section, but if they are going to treat customers this way, I am going to yank it.
I think I will also write them a letter also and let them know we generate a lot of traffic for them.

Hey Corey,

When I was on the phone with them, I advised that the negative information I received about NR products were from two of the largest 4Runner forums. I mentioned that yotatech and 4x4wire reaches people worldwide.

In my discussion with them I advised that there are members who still have this product on there rigs. They have kept them on because the gauges look and work great during day. However, how many of them are taking a safety risk at night due to the lack of lumination from the gauges.
Still she advised that this would have to be dealt by NR.

I told her that it wouldn't take much for me to spread the word about there lack of responsibilty for products they sell. Again they seemed unfazed.

The worst part about this is that they called me at 7am on Christmas Eve basically to tell me that they are not a responsible company and to deal with my problem directly with the manufacture.
Thanks Performance Products and a Happy New Year to you.

I wrote them a big letter over the last hour, and let them know too that they are not dealing with just one person here.

Lets say that almost all 1000 members we have here read this, and then tell 3 friends.
Now it's 4,000 that know, and I'm sure it will be many more after that.

The word will spread like wildfire.
They also have a link to this post, and I'm sure they will find the one on ODW too, as that forum was also mentioned.

It's not good for their business when they deal like this.
There is power in the 'Net, and I hope more business's realize this.
It only takes a few posts to spoil it.

Just look at the huge post on POR about Tap recycling.

SMR:

I too had a very negative experience with NR Auto about 3 years ago---with the president of the company no less.

I had a 99 and he sold me a 98 gauge and told me it would fit with some modification. When I did and it didn't work, I returned it and he said that he wouldn't take it back due to the fact I modified it. While trying to negotiate with this guy, he claimed he never said it and none of his employees would ever say such a thing. When I confronted him about why he marketed on his website that his gauges fit "+96 4Runner" when in fact it only fits 96-98, he said "We don't have the time to change this on our website". Buncha bulls##t if you ask me.

In anycase like the other members advised, do a chargeback to the credit card company.

Bob

Bob, I'm not good enough with HTML to make a page like that.
But that is a great idea.

I have always wanted a "blackball" type of list to setup on my homepage.

If someone could create a site, I can link it from the forum here.

Adding comments to it would be nice.

Performance Products SUCKS! I will NEVER buy another item from them. Their prices are too high, the emloyees know nothing about the products they sell and their customer service is non-existant.

When I ordered my exhaust system from them I did it for one reason only: A first time buyer 15% discount.

I had to order the system THREE times before they sent me the correct one. They refused to believe me when I told them that my truck had only ONE Catalytic Converter and not TWO. It seems they don't realize that there are other states outside of California. When I spoke with Jardine directly to verify which model I should buy, they recommended Truck Performance as the place I should go to buy their product.

On TP's website, they mention that some 99-00 4Runners have only One Cat and need to use the exhaust system for the 96-98 trucks. PP's website makes no mention of this. I even told the salesperson at PP about this error and that they should fix it. They have still not fixed this and I bought my system in May of this year. He said they had all kinds of "Fitting" problems with these exhaust systems when they sold them for these trucks. Gee, I wonder why?

PP is also clueless about the Downey Headers they sell for these trucks. TP went out their way to research a way to put together a Downey Header and X-Over Pipe setup for my truck. AND the price they quoted was over One Hundred Dollars LESS for the Header and X-Over Pipe than what PP wanted for the headers alone.

Another thing about PP is their springs for these trucks only carry a One Year Warranty, yet are more expensive than the NWOR Springs that I bought which carry a LIFETIME Warranty.

I dunno, I think PP blows and sucks @ss. They won't be getting any more of my money.

Sounds like another reason Dr. to not buy from there.

Here is the page to use to contact them.
http://www.performanceproducts.com/Contact.aspx

I used the email form at the bottom if anyone want to write to them and express their concerns on this and other matters.

You will get a letter that is server generated sent to you after you submit your letter to them.

Thanks for emailing Performance Products. One of our customer-service specialists will contact you as soon as possible. Our goal is to address each inquiry within one business day. Your original inquiry is included below for reference:
Now lets see if they get back to me, or sweep this matter under the carpet.

Sweet,I'm in if we are going to try and sign a petition on this thing, if not then I will definatey tell them to remove me from they're mailing list. I have a few(like 7 or 8) Jeep buds that are on sour terms wih PP as well(high prices and custoer services), this would only be an excuese for them to aise hell and get the Jeep(HUGE) comunity in on things as well. I know a few of them wouldn't mind raising hell and asking to be taken off they're list. Spreading like wildfire already, this can't be good for PP .

Guys,

In defense of PP, I've never had a problem with them in terms of customer service. In fact, I live close enough to their warehouse showroom that I can judge personally how they treat customers. I've always gotten good advice and service from them. Yeah, their prices are high but you can always shop somewhere else. To me, they're like the Nordstroms of the auto accessory industry. When I was at a rather large internet auto parts e-tailer, our lame ass managers and directors always tried to emulate their formula (that's another story), but to no avail.

They're good in my book and I think we can all agree that they're big because they've done something right.

In my opinion, NR is probably more at fault than PP. Every reseller (PP, in this case) has to abide by some return policy from the vendor (NR) and I can almost guarantee you that NR said something to the effect that "any modification voids the warranty and returns". So who should suck the loss? PP or NR? And therein lies the dilemma.

The guy I have been in contact with today said they are going to let NR know about the problem.
But he also said they have never heard of this happening before.

As far as I know, they have agreed to give Mike a full refund.

Hey Corey,
Thanks for doing that for me. I still haven't gotten a response from them.

Wow. Prior to me writing this thread, PP was done with me. Hmmm? Man and a full refund. Thats great! That's all I was asking for to begin with.
As stated in the e-mail, " It was the right thing to do". That was very big of you PP.

What was stated in the e-mail was still the same info the girl was conveying to me when I first recieved the call on the 24th. The issue again is that it was "DEFECTIVE".

But oh well, I'll deal with that if I ever get a response from them.

Guys. Thanks for your comments and your backing. Its nice to know that we stand by each other.

And thanks for letting me gripe. Im ok now.

Again thanks Corey.
