Hey All, my truck is currently getting some love by the fabricator and he asked me what winch im going to use, well i havnt decided. I am partial to the warn powerplant because it has air as well as a solid winch. Anybody seen one of these mounted on a 3rd Gen 4Runner, or mounted one themselves. If not I need to ask someone a HUGE favor, could somebody please measure the width and height of the grill on the 4Runner, the plastic piece between the headlights. Any information would be appreciated on this winch though. Thanks everybody,

That is a big winch, you'd have to mount it very low or far out not to cut into your grill.

I have a xd9000i and they way its mounted I had to cut a big chunk of my grill out to fit it in.

Thats a big winch. Its rare to see even an integrated solenoid winch on a relatively stock 3rd gen, let alone a huge winch like that. You will have to cut lots, and have a fully custom front bumper.

I don't like a huge winch placed right in front of my radiator air flow, but thats just me.

I know its a big winch, and i am getting a custom bumper built, and I had intended on cutting into the grill. So the general consensus is, its a big winch and i will have to cut into the grill, and it will restrict airflow. Besides that, is anybody willing to make the measurement for me?

Crolision, this winch isnt a whole lot bigger than yours, approx 1 inch wider half an inch deeper and then 3.46 inches taller, and a lot heavier 30 lbs to be exact. Yea i guess three inches may be a lot when looking at what im gonna have to do to make it fit but i dont think itll be that much. If you have pics of what it looks like with it in there could you please post them?

yes, i had actually planned on those two before the winch. but since things have changed i "need" the winch now.

on my 99 stock grill it is 2'11" at the bottom of the grill between lights and 2'7" at the top portion of the grill between the lights. I cant measure the height at this time because I cant find my damn tape measure. I had to use my laser measure for the width but the height is too short for the laser to get a reading.

If someone doesn't beet me too it i will re-post with the height, once I find my damn tape.

JuJew, i aprreciate the information, but after talking with my fabricator we decided against it so we can keep the bumper nice and tight on the 4runner. I ended up with a warn endurance 12.0 for those who care.

I have a Warn 9.5ti on my rig. It is tucked in pretty tight as you can see. If I had to do it over, I would have eliminated the grille and brought the winch in even tighter than it is...Overall, I quite pleased with the end result.

Johnny, that looks real good. Gives me lots of hope, I talked to my fabricator on Friday night for about 45 minutes, all is coming along real nicely, I CANT WAIT. He has designed the bumper so it will only stick out about 3 inches from the front of the Runner, but i did what you said you should have, removed the grill. Im going to take the bottom cross member on the grill and my Endurance 12.0 will fit underneath by about a 1/4" (.25) of an inch. Things are going to be real tight on the front end. He is using a piece of 3x8 box tubing for the mounting plate, not sure how thats gonna work out in the long run with the winch, but its going to be pretty damn strong over all. Then instead of using round tubing for the "bull bar" portion of my bumper he is going to use sqaure tubing, which is going to be interesting, but this guy blends things real nicely with the shape of vehicles. Two more weeks and i should be going to pick it up, hopefully.

Make sure that he allows room for the frame to flex. I am probably being redundant, but it goes without saying...Looking forward to the build. Keep us posted.

By the way, I have NEVER regretted going custom for my bumpers. Everday I smile because my bumpers were EXACTLY the way I wanted it. I would do it again in a heart beat. Congrats.

BWJ, have you ever connected up a OBDII scanner and gotten your actual coolant temps with that setup?

I was reading somewhere else about temps and winches, the 9.5ti was mentioned, but no one said anything about temps, until someone asked warn. Temps can hit mid to high 200s in a winch. The endurance fan is set to kick on at 212 degrees, and to keep the winch at sub 200.

I'm talking about engine coolant temps, not the winch temps. Because of the way the winch blocks so much of the air flow to the radiator. At the very least the fan clutch is going to be working hard.
