Hi,

I am new to this site.

My (stock) 1990 4Runner has started to vibrate & there is a growling sound towards the front end. I can feel the vibration start at around 25-30mph but at 50-55mph, the vibration gets worse and growling gets louder. This is only in 2 wheel drive...

I've changed tires but that didn't help. The rear u-joints are a year old!

I did hear a ticking noise at the front end of the truck and then it started to vibrate when the ticking noise disappeared. I didn't get a chance to investigate. I don't know if there is any correlation with the ticking noise and vibration!!!

Does anyone have any ideas... front axles, front transalxe, wheel bearings.

One last question... If I can't figure this out, should I take my truck to the dealership where they "SHOULD" be able to diagnose the problem or an independent garage that might know a little abotu 4x4 or Toyota's?

Any suggestions, help would be greatly appreciated...

My truck is still awaiting its new wheel bearings, which are causing the same issues. I bought wheel bearings, seals, races, Brembo rotors and PF pads like 2 months ago I just havent had time to get started.. I would jack it up and spin each wheel and see if there is any play in the bearings... do you have manual hubs or auto??

Ditto that, sounds like a classic case of wheel bearings.

BTW- If you're a pay-to-get-stuff=fixed kind of guy - find an independent shop that does good work, and stick with em. A good independant is always cheaper than the stealers and will treat you right as a regular. Most of them are more knowlegable too - they know more than look-in-the-book...

It's auto locking hubs.

I'll jack up the truck this weekend and have a good look at it.

I hate paying anyone to fix my vehicles... but it is a little cool at the moment to work on it outdoors.
