Vehicle Speed Sensor wire location?
Can anybody tell me which wire out of which of the 4 plugs coming from the 3.4 ECU is the vehicle speed sensor wire? I installed the Rostra cruise control hte Taco yestderday, and the instructions left quite a few things to be desired. I figured out where the other two wire taps went (since the picture where they were supposed to show it was BLANK in the manual).
The inst. said the VSS wire was a green wire w/ orange stripe. I found one, but the illustration didn't quite match up with the plug I found it in. It said it would be at pin #6. The wire I found was the 6th wire, from my counting.
I tried the cruise and it didn't work so I'm backtracking now.

Green/orange is correct. Did you change the dip switches on the back of the cruise module for the correct type of wand that you used? Usually you have to throw the 12th dip to ON, or off, whatever it does not come shipped as. This will cause the cruise to not function. Also, do the troubleshoot steps in the back of the manual.

There is a green wire w/orange stripe that come from the speedometer located at plut E6 Pin 22. Its labed function is SP1. That should be the wire you want.
I think, but not sure, the E6 plug should be the second from the left as you look at the ECU mounted in the truck. The plug has 28 pins total and the pin 22 should be bottom row, third from the left.
Well that is if you have an auto transmission.

Thanks, gents. I went back and did some clean up on the wire taps and double checked the colors. I just used the only green/orange stripe wire I found. I got the cruise to work. I think it may have had more to do with me learing how this cruise setup works.
Phx, I would have LOVED to have done the troubleshooting in the back of the manual, unfortunenatley there was NONE. More on that later, I gotta get some sleep now.
If hell is really tired, then I'm tired as hell.

Digging up an old post here from '03.
The speed sensor wire runs from the ECU to the speedo, correct?
I have an '02 4R and I am having a problem finding it to tap into it.

That's how it's s'posed to be done, son.....
Yeah, finding that sucker can be tricky. It should be a green wire with an orange stripe. Get a good flashlight, and try to look on booth sides of the wires. I think mine had the orange stipe facing the firewall.
Gadget said it's at E6 Pin 22. If you've got a good flashlight - or one of those magnifying glass things with the little flashlight built in that you find on the displays in the check-out line at Wal-Mart (the devil!!) would probably work really good, you should be able to see little numbers on the harness that correspond to the correct wire.
good luck.
