Value rebuilt of 3.4l V6
Hey guys, 1996 Tacoma just left our shop with a new engine. The old one had a blown head gasket, the owner opted for a new motor. Currently, I have the complete engine in my possession, oil pan to intake. I was thinking about tearing it down, freshening it up with new bearings/gaskets, cylinder honing if needed, freshen up the heads, cleaning it up and selling it. I'm not new when it comes to building engines, my question basically what is it worth and what could I realistically sell it for after I rebuild it? I don't want to waste the time and spend the little bit of money up front to rebuild it if I can't flip it for a decent profit. thanks in advance.

your in luck, I am doing the same thing, and I just bought an engine from a Japanese import company with 40K on it. So here are the price ranges I have found in WA. I found 2x engines in American junk yards in WA with 180K and 130K priced at $1500 and $1800 respectively. I found the Japanese imported engine with 40K for $2G's and a 1 year warranty that came with oil pan, intake mani, and throttle body. A complete gasket set that includes Intake mani gaskets, complete valve cover gaskets, timing belt, exhaust mani gaskets, head gaskets, throttle body gasket usually cost around $300 for the 3.4L So hopefully the only things you will have to do are clean the intake mani, throttle body and rebuild 1 head and the lower and sell it for around $2G's
a few issues I have run into. There are 2x different styles of water pump, the US 3.4 has a oil cooler, where as the 3.4L from Japan does NOT. Also, I when you go to rebuild the lower end and you buy new parts like rods, connecting rods, pistons, etc could you post on this thread where you purchased them from and how much they cost, because I don't wanna sell my right arm and my liver for parts from LCE... hopefully my post helped

That did help, thanks. Unless it's really needed I won't be replacing the rods/pistons etc..They should be ok, just going to do rod/main bearings/gaskets/rebuilt head/clean it up and sell it. Thats about what I heard they were going for, so thats good to get confirmation as I haven't had time to research the value much.
I'm about 20 minutes from ft lewis, let me know if you need a hand wrenching or something sometime.

AND remember to get that had resurfaced ultra smooth--30RA or better--that stands for 30 Average Roughness. Most older machines cant do it.
And there are two sets of head gaskets on the market for these engines--the old design and the MLS design--get the MLS design
