Used Goodyear MT/Rs

I found a set of used 285/75/16 MT/R's with 15/32 treads left. I was told by the local goodyear dealer the 305 and 285 both have 19/32 to start. Anyways, these have 15/32 and roughly 8-10K miles. They are owned by a guy that works for Goodyear. One tire had a nail, but has been fixed. They are mounted on a fullsize Dodge.

He is asking 160 a tire, but is negotiable with cash. I can get them new for 200 a piece m&b. I would be looking at 800 plus tax installled.
I might be able to pick them up for $500. I would be buying used tires and still have to pay for M&B.

any thoughts?? I ask b/c ususally I buy new tires and sell them with the majority of their tread.

I had MT/Rs after about 15-20k miles they run like crap, and are really loud on the street. Also look to see if there are chunks missing from the tread. If I were you, I'd just get them new

thanks.
did you rotate them regularly and check the balance?? I hear they require more attention than other tires ( Yes I understand they are not a passenger tire)

rotate and balance every 6k miles .. if your going to buy used, throw them on a second set of some cheap rims and just put them on when you go wheeling. They're good tires for about 20k miles, then they need to be replaced.

good luck

I don't think that is a very good deal, when another $160 gets you all new tires. I got mine for my last rig for $200 m&b, tax included.

I agree, I think you could either find a better used price, or just sport out for new. BTW, I am on my second set of 35" MTRs on my jeep, and I love them. I think they wear great and arent that loud (of course, I dont have my top on half the time....and it IS a jeep, which are pretty loud to begin with). I havent ever had trouble with chunking or anything.

So far I've got over 38,000 miles out of my 35" MT/R's, they did get louder and I've chunked them in the rocks quite a bit. Finally had to re-balance and do plan on replacing them soon. I'll get another set, since I like the way they work offroad. Though about trying the Nitto Mud Grappler next as well.....

Those are probably for 15" wheels, versus 16" wheels.
