Urgent Towing Question
I've got a 96 4x4 V6 5 speed 4Runner with the large brakes. I just purchased an 04 Taco D-cab from an insurance auction down in LA. I've got to pick it up by Friday, and am considering picking it up with my 4Runner, The taco weighs 3500lbs, and the trailer should weigh about 2K... so that puts the weight just over the max limit.
It's a 350 mile journey, I don't have a problem taking it easy and taking side roads to avoid overheating the brakes. but i need to know if the truck can physically do it.

it will be quite and adventure. I've been towing 3000 lbs with my 04 taco, its max is 6000 lbs. I wouldnt want to tow anymore then 3000 lbs though, it just doesnt have quite the power to safely pull much more for long distances. It doesnt have any stopping problems though. I probably wouldnt tow its max unless it was just around town or something.
Thought about renting a dolly? That will decrease the weight of the trailer quite a bit.
Good luck

I towed my race truck with trailer totaling 6500lbs with my G/F 5.3 Chevy Tahoe and that was a chore!! good luck
Your putting alot of stress on your wheel bearings and axles...not to mention your engine and tranny...I would get another tow rig.
