I decided to finally upgrade my front brakes today. I bought some stainless steel brake lines from toysport (which I wouldn't recommend to anyone), Some performance rotors and some premium brake pads. I wanted EBC pads but I couldn't get them anywhere and I heard they discontinued them for first gen 4runners. I got the 54mm socket and 1 inch drive adapter needed to takes off the hub from snap-on for pretty cheap. I repacked the bearings and polished the hubs and sprayed the rotors and caps black. I sprayed the bolts on the caps black and sprayed some red in the center. Overall It went great and looks and feels better than stock.

What would you recommed from steel braided lines? If you don't like the Toysports, why put them on?

Then, remove the 6 14mm bolts that hold the rotor to the hub, pound a pickle fork in between the rotor and the hub, and they should separate.

Why wouldn't you reccommend the Toysports? Need more info on why other then that you just wouldn't.

I've been wanting to paint my brake calipers for a while now just to do it.

I was thinking about using dupli-color's brake caliper kit.

Dupli-color's brake caliper kit SUCKS. Just use some regular old high temp paint...and plan on taking your time unless you want it to look like crap.

Rebuild your calipers/brakes while you are at it and it makes painting an easy part of it all.

Marlin, All-Pro, tons of people offer good S/S brake lines.

If they suck, why put them on?

what part of the image is/are the cone washers? i am new to yota brakes....how does that all work...?

See where the brass draft is sitting on that stud? The big gold thing...the cone washers are around those studs...you tap the studs and it loosens the cone washers...or work them out w/ some small screw drivers.

I have been told that these crossdrilled/slotted rotors can not be turned when its time to replace the pads.

Is this true?

I've considered getting them for a long time, but when I heard that, I said forget it. The mechanic I asked said you just "rough them up" with a disk grinder attachment on a grill. That would be ok with a rotor that is immune to warping, etc..

So whats the skinny on these rotors?

I've wondered that myself. When I asked one of my teacher's in school he said cross drilled were fine to resurface but not the slotted ones. I would assume he knows since he helped build the motorsports class' race car.
