Two steps cooler plugs= worse mileage?
I finally installed my irridium plugs in the truck and went with a cooler plug to reduce ping with the supercharger. The ping seems to have been cured but I seem to now be getting worse mileage. I also cleaned off my MAF when the intake was apart. Is this normal with the cooler plugs?
I haven't noticed any change in power.
Thanks

Are they IK 20 or IK 22's? If you have just the S/C you probably only need the 20's - one step cooler. If they are too cool of a plug they may be fouling and leading to worse mileage..

I have to go home and look at the box as I can't remember. I used the ones on Sparkplugs.com as a reference for stock and went from there.

I installed the colder plugs that came with the trd 7th kit & 160 degree thermostat, I havent wired up the actual 7th injector yet, but my truck got around 20.7 mpg the first tank right after the supercharger went on, and now the ecu seems to be getting used to the charger and I'm sitting at 310 miles on 3/4 of a tank. Im thinking that should put me right at about 23mpg.
I'll hafta see what happens when I get the actual 7th wired up. I expect my mileage to take a little hit, but not that bad........hopefully.
I assume you reset the ecu after you did the plug swap?

21 mpg ?!?!?!?! Good lord --- I'd kill to get that kind of mileage!
I bought my runner with the SC already on it and I would get a consistent 17 mpg ---- after I put the (TRD) 7th on, I can't even break 16 - usually running 14-15mpg. I attribute some of it to the REVOs, but...
What am I missing here?
It runs good - no pinging. I don't do alot of WOT runs for fear of blowing the tranny (IPT is in the future) --- I've learned to be kind to the tranny. I know its running rich --- but THAT rich? Makes me think that there is no problem running a 2.2" pulley -- but would that run richer?
Contemplating talking with Jason to see what the 7th controller might do for me --- but I'm alittle leary of heading down the tuning road - that was the whole reason for going with the TRD 7th (I was able to run it for a year under warranty). I'm even contemplating replacing the O2 in case its in a slow death spiral.
All the threads about SCs --- seems like everyone is having their own set of issues.

You're running a LOT of weight. You might consider removing anything you don't need - bull bars, running boards, etc, and going with stock sized LIGHT weight tires 265/70/16... oh yes, there can be a discrepancy of 12 to 15 lbs per tire depending on your choice. BFG AT's - great tires, but at 50 lbs per tire these kill performance and MPG.

But... its a 4RUNNER ... you HAVE to have big knarly tires

Yeah really, I have 285 Nittos on the truck and I get about 290 miles on about 16.5 gallons of gas. However the mileage is off slightly since the tires are larger then stock. I expect to get worse mileage with the bigger tires, but it seems to have gone down since putting in the new plugs?

I got about 220 miles on 14 gallons of gas with my stock rims and tires on. With my old set-up I was at about 190 (88 lbs total weight per tire/rim!). So it does make a big difference. With my new volk's and 32's I should be right around stock numbers if not a little better.
Have you pulled the plugs to see what they look like?

I also put the 2 step cooler plugs in and had a drop in MPG, used to get 19-20 with Bosch 4 prong plugs in, went to the irridum plug and only get 17-18 now. I also moved much closer to work, 2 miles versus 11 miles.
Sefoamed, cleaned MAF, etc.. nothing brought the MPG back. going to replace the O2 sensor and see if that helps some. might try 1 step vs 2
but at $8-10 each= ouch to the wallet
2 step helped with the ping, Bosch plugs rattled like rocks in a soup can.
