1. I was looking at it, and the P3000's would fit quite nicely replacing the turn signals in the bumper. They have a marker light that could be used for the parking light/turn signal. The question is how could you wire a single filament light to be both steady as a parking light and blink when you have the turn signal on?

2. Is it possible to replace the steering wheel, either relocating the cruise buttons, or better yet, wiring them to "shift" buttons in a racing wheel?

You can use a trailer wire converter to make a single element bulb do both functions. The same converter you would wire a trailer plug to in the rear could do the same for the light in the bumper, just connect it to the front wiring.

Thanks guys- changing to a dual element socket is not possible, however the link on roger's site (http://www.p-vector.com/bob/garage/vw/side_marker/) looks like it might workwith a little deciphering (appears it was written for a Bentley! Anyone happen to have one in their garage? Switched hot or switched ground?)

Yes, the trailer connector would work.

Also, if you bring a power wire from the existing park light power to one side of the bulb, and the power wire from the existing turn signal light to the other side of the bulb, it will be on with park lights but blink with the turns. This is how it's done on many vehicles.

you can do it with a simple 5 pin relay-- 30 to bulb, 87 to +12v, 86 to gnd of blinker lights (since toyotas are switched ground) and 85 to +12 from running lights. 87a connects to nothing since you want the light to turn off when the blinker blinks it.
