I was wondering if anyone out there has tube doors on their rig. I emailed Jeff at Badland Bumpers who is responsible for my trucks beautiful and strong sliders and front and rear tube bumpers. I have seen them manufactured for 3rd gen pickups by SW Tube Works. Anyhow, I think that they would certainly be the ticket for summer four wheeling. Jeff mentioned that they legally questionable at best. Anyone have any experience using these? I am mainly interested in Washington and California since these are my stomping grounds. Thanks for any experiences or opinions.

Rome, I don't have any experience with them, but I have often looked at the above ones at the review for them.

They look to be very high quality, and if I had a 2 door truck I'd run them on trail rides during the summer.

Most of these can be fitted with a mirror of some sort.
I have seen a few rigs while at Sam's Club that had these on them in Auburn.
They may be part of a club, I don't know.

Jeff would surely be able to fab up a set of these for sure, and mount mirrors on them.
I'd call the State Patrol and see what they have to say about it, and if it's legal with mirrors on them.



They do look very cool, and a great way to watch a narrow trail if you are on one.

I think that they would be way cool on the 4Runners as well. In fact I wanted a 4Runner at the time that I was looking for a 4X4, but (sighs) they were like $5K more than what I paid for my pickup. I am looking into getting some "raingutter" mounts installed on my cab so that I can move my roofrack to the cab when I remove the canopy.

dang, those are some nice lookin trucks, i havent seen that b4 on toyota pickups but have on chevy pickups, wish i could help

I think the general concensus on the boards have been as long as there are mirrors then it's OK. But nobody has replied with solid legal evidence for this. Do a google search for vehicle codes in wash and CA

I am planning on ordering a set next month. They are $200 a set painted black. +$80 for powder coating. The quote that I got from Scott at SW Tube Works was $315 for a pair powdercoated and shipped to Washington State. A great deal if they are legal!

WOW... that has got to be the longest sig I have ever seen. Anyway.. I agree. If I could drive my old Wrangler with no top or doors there should be no problem with this. The only thing they might say is that the jeep was designed to be driven with out the doors on and the Yota's were not. Just my $.02

In order to be legal there has to be a drivers side mirror, a latching mechanism, handle, and a threshold to keep things on the vehicle floor from falling out. The jeeps can go doorless becase they have the miror and threshold built into the body. And the latch and handle are only too keep the door from opening in motion, not needed if there's no door (like the jeep).

These doors are not street legal in Washington state, Toyota trucks don't have a tub under the door just a flat floor. Reason Jeeps can get away with it is they have a 3-4" lip to keep crap from falling out, we don't have that and it's required by law for the safety of other drivers. You most likely won't be bothered about it unless you do something else to get their attention but be forewarned.
Don't bother, I'm about to file a claim with my card company against these guys cause they couldn't ship out a simple u-bolt flip kit and some shock mounts in a reasonable time frame. They're also impossible to get a hold of and charge you immediately when you order instead of when it ships.

Was talking with Scott about welding a panel to the bottom of the doors, would seal with the weather stip and act as this threshold. Will post the pic I sent him as soon as montypics is back up...

Hey all this forum was brought to my attention today thought maybe I could help a little.

The doors I first built were just a last minute thing for a Rubicon trip because I dint have the time to cut half doors people started buggin me to build them some and here we are.
I own a fab shop in Ca. and mainly do buisiness in the heavy equipment industry.

Now as far as the exact legality of the doors go it varies from state to state I do no that you have to have mirrors and a latch as stated above .
I have talked to a couple different officers with the CHP here in Ca and they told me that the lip in the floor is somewhat of an issue but that they were not concerned with it and would not pull you over for it .
That it is up to the discetion of the individual officer and that most off road rigs were a rolling violation any how, here is an example he gave me and this is from memory and is not exactly acurate but you will get the picture.
Youre tail pipe cannot piont straight out the side of the truck if its over 20" from the ground and below 6 feet, so if youre truck has the stock tail pipe and you have 33" tires and some kind of a lift youre illegal.
My piont is if they wana give you a ticket they will find a reason

I do no that I've sold and or givin away around forty pairs of doors in Calafornia,Arizona,Colorado,Tennessee,Kentucky,Vir gina,Utah and New Hamshire and no one has ben issued a tickett for running them yet .
I no that they are bad ass off road and that I hate putting my real doors back on in the winter
