Most of these are in my build thread, but I thought I'd start a separate thread for this.

I'm just about done getting my junk on 35's. I'm running about 2-2.5" of lift (OME 881's and Allpro 3's) on my 99 Single cab. No body lift. The wheels and tires are American Eagle Alloy 101s 16X8s with 3.75 BS and 315/75/16 Goodyear MTR Kevlars.

I'm sure we've all seen Steves writeup on how to tub, as well as the TLT writeup.

I don't have enough pics and this ain't a writeup. I just wanted to put up some of my pictures and my 2 cents on the whole process.

I couldn't really find a whole lot of other info about it. The TLT writeup said they used 10G sheet metal. But that seemed WAY too thick. I used 16G and thought it was just perfect. 18G might me a tad more suitable.

I didn't end up cutting as much as steve did. I cut about what TLT did and I think I'll be good.

The offending area is the triangular spot:


I mocked the tire up at full stuff, drew some lines, and got to cutting. I drilled some holes where my lines where so I could triple check on the inside that I wasn't going to be cutting into anything.
First I had to trim 3" off of my 4xInnovations front bumper. It will be recapped soon.



This is what I ended up cutting out. If you look closely at the bottom of the cut near the floorpan you'll see a > shape. With that area cut out the rest of the fender well had some good slack that allowed me to massage the fenderwell back with my rubber mallet. Which is part of the reason I didn't have to cut the whole fender well out like Steve did.



I decided to cut out everything and do all the plating/ welding at once. So I moved to the drivers side and let loose. The drivers side was already miss shaped by my rubber mallet to keep my old 33s from rubbing, it looks weird.


But I made some more lines, did some and this was where I was at.


The next day it was on to the plating. Started with the passenger side. I did it in two steps, first the lower outside part. Wrapped it around the side as well.



Then the upper:


Here it is all done.


Yes that door hinge is now welded on. If I need to remove the door by the bolts I will pull the bolts from the door. Or I'll just use my quick pins.


I ended up putting a bunch of silicone on it. Inside and out. I'm going to get some herculiner and put over it at a later time.

Then it was onto the drivers side
I did this without the wrap around. I had to cut more from this side so I didn't have much room to wrap it around. Burnt through a couple times but got it all covered.


Once I got to this upper part, I did wrap it around. BTW, When doing this part I'd advise to put a wet rag inside the truck to keep the flames down.


Grind it down, silicon or seam seal it, herculine it and then go wheel.

I also had to cut my fenders though.
The rear is done at this moment in time. I took out 1" and it was good on the first try. Lined it with some door edge stuff per the TLT 4Runner clearance writeup. Going to be pulling that and using some pinch weld primer and then put some of this stuff on: http://www.mcmaster.com/#edge-trim/=9ftrl8

Not only does the edge keep the sharp fender from messing up the tire, it also helps to smooth out the lines.





I haven't gotten around to doing the front fenders yet, but those should be just as easy as the rear.

Nice write up man, I did almost the same thing to my runner, and hated every minute of it. It was a PITA. My buddy tried to do the same thing to his '01 running and some how screwed up a air bag sensor. But anyway I am glad I did it. My only problem is my plastic trim next to the door dosent fit nice anymore.

And why does it matter if there is a TTORA hat in the pics?

Didn't notice it til now. I have a couple different hats that stay in my truck. My UT hat, my allpro hat, my camburg hat... You get the picture.

Thanks Cpizzle, it was a pita for sure but I think it will be well worth it for diff clearance and stability with the extra width.

Why did you weld the hinge?

Its just how it unfolded.
I have quick release pins if I ever need to pull the doors. If I need to replace a door, I could easily grind it out. Its no big deal IMHO.

I was going to do a body lift, but I am glad I didn't and did this instead, because my heavy sob is already tipy enough on the rocks. Then again the BL could have been a PITA too...

I helped a friend tub his 4Runner today. Well, half of it. He asked me to assist since I have the experience doing it.


My truck and RJ's truck


The victim: It was involved in a front end accident and parted out. RJ bought the body to put on his ext. cab Tacoma frame.

Sweet! If I only had the guts to cut up my 4Runner
