Truth now, is the 2005 Tacoma Assembled in Mexico

Well, is it?

I am hearing pro's and con's about this and not exactly sure everyone has the right information, including me.

Thanks for any comments in advance.

The plastic bed is made in Mexico. The rest of the truck is assembled at the NUMMI plant in California.

Texas plant isn't open yet.

http://www.nummi.com/ Looks to be a bit out of date though.

Tacomas are made about 15 minutes from my place.

I wonder, is it American quality or Japanese quality? If it's the first, count me out.

Pickups began being built in the US in ~'92, Tacomas have always been built in the US, as well as all Tundras and Sequoias. So there's a ~12 year history of American built Toyota trucks, some say the quality isn't what it used to be with the Japanese Trucks, but the US built trucks obviously still have a reputation for a great product and incredible reliability. The fact that a paticular Toyota is made in America would not prevent me from buying it.

I doubt that my '96 Taco would be any more reliable had it been 100% assembled in Nippon.

Heck, it's been dead reliable as it is.. American assembly and all.

My dealer told me(as of about 10 months ago), that 4th gen. 4Runners are still made in Japan.

The fact is that Toyota and Lexus vehicles sold in the US have their engines built in the US and a majority of them are built in the Buffalo West Virginia plant. http://www.rickleephoto.com/rltoyota.htm I wonder if that changes peoples minds about Toyota or about WV? Either way they are still the best built on the planet and built in one of the most beautiful states in the country no matter what BS you have heard. The Tacoma and Tundra engines are built in Alabama http://www.automotive-business-revie...6-FF7063BE2BA0 !!!!
