Exclamation TrueTrac Model Number

My daily driver is a 3rd gen, 2000 model, 2 Wheel Drive, 3.4L V6 4Runner Limited with the 4spd automatic trans. I've been considering installing a TrueTrac LSD in the rear end as a locker is not practical or necessary. I simply want traction to BOTH rear wheels when the going gets rough, on muddy country roads or in snowy conditions. I guess I am spoiled with my 98 runner. (My 4WD playtoy)!!! I have called Detroit for the correct model number and they seem confused. They gave me model number 913A610 as a possibility, but acted as if they were not completely sure! I think my 2000 runner has an 8" rear end, but don't know how to verify without taking it apart. Does anyone here have any experience and could verify the correct part number before I order one??? And who would you suggest that I purchase one from?

I'm also in the same hot seat as you, since i thought the only option was the trd kazuma lsd. But that seems like a rare and hot commodity.

This seems to be the one you want, since all 3rd Gen 4Runners have an 8" V6 rear diff. Even the 4cyl models.

http://www.performanceoffroadcenter....roducts_id=906

They list it as part number: 913A321

Thanks for everyones input. Talked to Randy's Ring and Pinion and per the information plate on my door jam "A03A" means that I have a 7.5" rear diff. He said that was unusual, but possible. If I go to:

http://toyota.off-road.com/toyota/ar....jsp?id=274535

at the bottom of the page it almost makes sense, however my VIN begins with JT3..., so I am still somewhat confused.

Does anyone know what the P/N would be for a TracTech 7.5" or have any other ideas of who to talk to?

Thanks

You don't have a 7.5" rear diff. Those were only in the base 2WD "Work trucks" of the early 90's and 80's that has 22R's.

You have an 8" V6 rear diff. The IFS front diffs are 7.5", but that is a front.

Ok, but how do you explain the codes on my Information Plate?

VZN180L-GKPZKA is supposed to mean I have a 4.10 ratio and

A03A is supposed to mean:
1st position:"A"=7.5",
2nd position:"03"=4.10 Ratio,
3rd position:"A"=2 pinion open

Its just that my VIN begins with JTxxxx...not 4Txxxx

I found this info at this website:
http://toyota.off-road.com/toyota/ar....jsp?id=274535

Can you point me to another reference to verify your statements please?

Thanks

I explain it by telling you they have new codes for the newer trucks.

http://www.sonoransteel.com/Toyota_axle_codes.html

None of those sites will work for anything 96 or newer. It's all for older stuff.

You have an 8" V6 diff, if you don't believe me pull it and measure it. You'll see.

Put a 3rd Gen 4Runner in the www.car-part.com database and all you'll get for rear diffs is 8" V6 models.

Thanks Steve. I am NOT trying to be a smart-ass here. I had visited you site and verified my axle ratio previously (thanx very much). I would love to pull mine apart and measure it, (I may have to), but I was hoping to be able to order the part, THEN take everything apart and install, instead of doing a teardown twice. Its just that when I dig around for info there just seems to be enough doubt and confilcting opinion out there that I have become quite confused. BTW, I have gone to www.car-part.com, but gotten several answers from 7.5" to 8" when I would call for information.

I am also of the understanding that a 7.5" and 8" diff are very close to the same when measured. I read that the 8" is really just under 8" in dia. so that may also promote confusion.

I am just hoping that I can be pointed to someone or some site that can verify exactly what I have.

The only facts I have are the ones on my Information Plate. I just need to find a way to translate them. "VZN180L-GKPZKA", and "A03A"

Thanks again

On late model runners, you would have 5 lug wheels if you had a 7.5" 2wd rear end.

Can you take a picture of the truck's butt? If it is 6 lug and we can see the third, we will confirm, again, that despite dellusions otherwise, you have an 8" rear end.

And, if you think you want this to cover when things get muddy and both tires turn, you will be happy only half the time.

OK Thanks to everyone...But lets cut to the chase and go back to my original question please. 2000
4Runner Limited 2wd V6 Automatic, Drivetrain Information Plate info:
VZN180L-GKPZKA and A03A. VIN begins with JT3xxx
6 bolt hubs. Could someone tell me the correct PART NUMBER for either a TracTech or Truetrac LSD that is made for and will fit the above without the use of a plasma cutter?

Thanks again folks

2 wheels in the mud half the time.

The PN is for an 8" diff V-6.

How about using a supra LSD in a 8" v6 rear diff?

I wonder how hard it is to come by a supra LSD just sittin' around and whether or not they are like any other stock LSD... somewhat worthless?
