Truck won't start after install of amp and speakers.......

Posting this for a friend

He installed an amp and two 8" speakers and now his truck won't start. Any ideas on what to look for? When he turns the key he doesnt' even hear a click.

Could he have fried the starter somehow? He also replaced the battery so that wasn't it either. But he did say after he installed everything, he think it drained the battery cuz he had to get it jumped. Then let it run to charge the battery. But when he turns off the truck he'd have to get it jumped again.

TIA

so did your friend get the new battery before or after the install?...
if he got it before the install...and it was "jumped"... don't you have to have it running for awhile to get it "recharged"
like let it idle for like 15 minutes after you drive it around?

Did your "friend" make sure he connected the cables tight on the terminals?
It's O.K. to fess up to minor flaws you do to your rig man..Noone will quietly laugh at you..

What fuse did he use for the remote wire? Sounds to me like he ran the wire for the remote to the IGN. fuse and he didn't get the fuse pushed all the way back in. Tell him to run the remote wire to a different fuse if that is the case. (i.e. the Acces. fuse or something that turns on with the accessories)

First off, to make life easier I'd disconnect the amp power. That way you can just deal w/ the battery issue. (Diagnose the batt problem b4 attempting to figure out the amp.) With the power line that goes to the amp disconnected from the battery, check battery. make sure all connections to the battery is correct. See if vehicle starts. if not, maybe the battery is bad?

If the battery is okay then work on the amp

good luck

I fried one of the fuses in the fuse box under the hood once. All my accessories went dead, and the truck wouldn't even crank. If that sounds like your buddy, have him check the fuses.

Good times has the right idea, more than likely it is a bad battery or a short in the wiring. It sounds like a short to me if the battery is new. How did he connect the wiring? If he used something like wirenuts or some other connector(made for home wiring) it probably came loose and is arcing just enough to not blow the fuse. He can try putting a smaller fuse if it blows with the amp off it's in the line.

1) The battery was replaced after he found out the truck wouldn't start.

2) It doesn't even crank

3) Trust me, if it was my own problem, I would admit it.

4) I sent him a link to this thread and told him to check periodically. Hopefully he does everything you guys are suggesting. I knew i could count on you guys.

are you sure you have the "remote on/off lead" from the head unit wired correctly...if not then the amp is always on and thus always draing the battery ???

I was just going to suggest that. I had the same problem with my truck. I ended up shortening my ground to get rid of the corrosion.

How is what I did unsafe? I cut off the end that was all corroded and put a new end on the freshly cut cable. All done!

Holy crap no!!! I've delt with AC shock and DC shock on a small outboard... I would HATE to be shocked by the DC on the truck... that would be extremely painful. That and I care about my vehicle.
