truck won't start

well title is a little wrong the truck will sart then die it's 89 22re fuel is coming to the injecters it has fire but then it cuts the fuel supply to the injecters. I have checked the afm and it checks good according to the ohm meter the relay ohms good i don't think it's the fuel pump because there is fuel to start it. What am I missing? How do i check the ecu and will another afm start it even if the part number id differant? I am 300 miles from home and I am at a loss.

no it will not. if you spray starter fluid in the intake it will but other than that no. Ithink it is one of the relays I just found out there is more than the fuse in the fuse panel under the dash and the fuel pump relay under the hood. I still don't know I have never seen any car just cut fuel like that.

Check your Main start relay. My truck did this when I tested my snorkel. (Opps)

You can see that I had to stick GI Joe in the relay to keep it in the open postion.

Mines located here.

Sorry for the Huge Pic

well changed the main relay and nothing. could it be the ecu that is about the only thing left. the afm checks good the fuel pump relay checks good i don't have access to a diagnostis computer to check anything else. what am I missing I am starting to believe it is the ecu but i am in Ga and it is a Ca emissions truck so a ecu used it hard to find i found a few but they had 2 plug in spots where mine has 3 does ay know what the diffearnce is.

Did you check your MAS. (Mass air flow sensor)

It fires up but wont keep running? ie: Dies a couple seconds after start up?

The circuit opening relay, that powers the fuel pump has 2 inputs. One from the ignition switch while starting and one from the AFM while the engine is running. If the coil in the relay that the AFM turns on (or the wiring from the AFM to the relay) is bad, the AFM will not turn on the pump. You mention the truck starts fine then dies. That says the STS input it working and possibly the AFM/Fp input is not. The test jumper will help to rule that out.

And Toyota designed the fuel pump test jumper for exactly this purpose, testing out the fuel pump operation. Why not use the diagnostic feature that is present to help diagnose the problem it was designed to diagnose?

Another test is to manually open the AFM flapper while the ignition is on and see if you can hear the fuel pump turn on.

everything tested fine but it still won't stay running once started am am begging to think the computer is gone bad. it did this one other time and i played around with the afm and it started running again and ran great for about a week then as I was driving down the interstate it just lost power then died. how many relays and fuses do i have on the 89 it just loses fuel after you relese the key if you hold the key it will run. i hope i ran the jump test right.
