Transmission valve upgrade

Ok I don't want to hear the retarded answers about "If you don't do the upgrade you will destroy the tranny". I have had my Runner supercharged for just over a year, I just bought the URD 7th Injector kit, I talked to a guy a while back who did a $6 upgrade with washers to his tranny that was supposed to do the same thing as the upgraded valve would do but obviously for way less. what is anyones thoughts on this if anyone is familiar with this or not, let me know. I don't want to blow the thing and have to get it rebuilt. as of yet I haven't had any problems I have been pushing these big A tires for awhile as well.

id go on the safe side and do the valve body upgrade.

the only bad thing about it is that it has some down time because you have to send your valve body to level 10 or IPT so they can change the springs in it or whatever.

im sure with 35's and a supercharger, your tranny has alot of stress on it.

i had my 03 tacoma dbl cab supercharged for 25k miles, and when i first put it on, the tranny was fine. But as i approached about 10-15k miles on it, it was definately not shifing clean gear to gear, and with the added power of the blower, your auto trans really heats up. Hook up a temp gauge on the line coming out of your tranny, and youll see temps frequently hit 230-240 degrees which is a killer. Go ipt, its a $500 tranny insurance, drop the valve body out yourself and ship it on a monday to ipt, they get it tuesday, should have it done by wed/thurs latest, then overnighted to you on friday and re-install. After you get it done, youll probably be able to chirp tires in second, and youll sleep well at night not wondering when your trans is gonna have to be rebuilt.

oh yea, they not only install stiffer springs, but bore it out to allow fluid to circulate faster and better, as well as new clutch plates that hold up. IT stays much cooler combined with a tranny cooler - hayden 678 or 679 (the bigger the better) mounted in front of your radiator. You also have the option of having them give you springs for a "harder" shift, or a "softer shift" - its up to you.

Call IPT and ask to speak to John. He will take the time and answer all your questions.

Screw sending it to a shop for nothing more then valve spring upgrade. Use a magnetic tiped grabber and lubricate the bores with assembly lubricant and ATF, ensure the magnetic grabber is totaly level and pull straight out gently rotating as you do so. If you are careful you can remove the valves without any damage, just be extremely slow and delicate and stop at the slightest sign of resistance.

I removed and checked all the valves in both a TH350 and 4T60E this way, as the local tranny shop wanted too much money to do it for me.
However maybe your tranny shops are more reasonable...

FWIW, dont skimp or your trans maybe toast.

I have personally been to both shops and actually had each shop work on my 84 corvette (they had to machine and rebuild the rare 4+3 doug nash trans) and I love thier work. I guess I am lucky they are only an hour from my current house and were 20 minutes from it before

I love both shops, they do excellent work or I wouldnt let them near my car. That trans is very rare and they dont make alot of parts for them anymore so understand.

This should help you understand what it takes to remove and replace the valve body http://members.cox.net/mgriese5/Level10.html

I just spent the last hour reading on the "upgrade" the supra guys are doing, thanks for the info. I'm going to do it when I get a chance I'll post on here how I went. I don't have the fat cash it would take to send it to IPT so we shall see if this will be good with 35's.......
