Transmission Identification Help Needed

Could someone tell me what transmission this is? I need a new auto tranny, mine is a A340H and someone has this one. We just need to ID it. Any experts please help. Below is the message I received:

Ok, I looked at the tranny last night and came up with a few markings.
1- top center of tranny housing: Large letters cast in the housing:
** 30 80 **

2- on bellhousing:
R a

3- right side of tranny
Aisin 8980
1
4- there are three sets of wires coming out of the left side and no wires on right side.

5- length of tranny/xfer case from bellhousing surface that bolts to engine to end of output flange is approx:
39.75"

Rky,
you just got into a twist-o-plex of numbers and info
not to worry though your not the onliest one.
Just did this myself.
the Aisin 340 should be good to go provided engine/veh model are fairly close.
Check your tranny wiring up in the engine bay to see if the plugs match up to your donor tranny..
if they don't it can be modified but I was advised against it due to the fact that if the plugs are different then modified the ECT maybe different in in say a gen I to genII 4runner..
inshort if the bell housing and plugs match you should be able to to do it..
Keep in mind like Auto makers,Aisin makes minor mods to their gear through out the model years thus the number/matchup game.. bottom line is "A340 is A340" Yuji Nishioka 2004 Japanese mech helping me with my tranny
check this thread out on Wildyoats
catagory: trucks and 4runners
Thread: Auto tranny
there maybe some helpful info there
good luck
Daniel

I'm so proud of my tranny... More than a year ago with 115k on the odometer, I got it flushed. Right when I did, it started slipping in first. It's been over a year with about 15k more miles on it, lots of 5 hour trips, hills, and sever abuse in the mud, and it still only slips in first. Not a whole lot either. Mad props to Toyota for building such good quality products.

we need a little more info. Is the new trans an auto as well, and what is it out of ? What is wrong with the one you currently have that you need a new one? Another way to tell is look at the oil pans and see if they look the same to start with. Look at yours in the truck already and see if it has the same marks. The reason i ask what is wrong with yours is that it could be a solenoid which is very easy to fix, or maybe even just a fluid change. Try pulling the codes for the tranny and go from there. We'll help as much as we can though.

The "340H" has an integral transfer case that has it's own "trans pan" on the bottom.

To the best of my knowledge, all 340H's interchange. The only difference could be connector style and bell housings.

It sounds as if you may have found the right one.
