Transmission Fluid Coolers?

For a Gen Iii Runner, what trans fluid cooler is best? Any recommendations to avoid at all? Trying to beat the milkshake on a high mileage car.

A stacked plate cooler such as a Tru-Cool brand is what some of us have successfully used.

Wow, so many sizes.
whats the best size to fit where it fits and where does it fit!? The attached links rworegon have dead links and photos dont pull up on my machine.
Sorry for borderline dumb questions but Ive never even heard of these until I joined this forum recently.

Yes, the pictures are dead but still good info in text.

I've got the Tru-Cool 4454 mounted just behind the grill as close to the AC/radiator/fan as possible. Some go with larger cooler....it depends to some extent how much room you have to fit the cooler and capacity needed. The 4454 is the minimum I was comfortable with.

Red face

Pretty much comes down to how hard you work the transmission .

How much cooling you need .

Do you plan to run a thermostat that only opens when the rise in temperature calls for it.

It does not get real cold if your still in Wilmington NC but it is possible to over cool the transmission . Buy going to large of a cooler.

one of the better brands is B&M Transmission Coolers:

http://www.bmracing.com/products/cat...=Oil%20Coolers

I would go for the B&M 70266 which is 11" L x 8" W x 1-1/2" T stacked plate design or the B&M 70298 which is equipped with a fan. Only thing is the 70298 is a tube and fin design which is not as efficient as a stacked plate design. I guess that's why a fan is provided.
