Transfer case won't shift!
Hey guys,
This is my first post, though I have been lurking for quite some time. I am running a '02 Taco with the 3rz and a five speed. I just got through changing out the Oem clutch for Marlin's 1200 lb HD kit and what a differerence, you guys where right, the Marlin clutch is awesome! I have put about four hundred miles on it so far and have had no issues, save one.
When putting the trans back up after the clutch
install I had no help (and no tranny jack) so needless to say I seperated the trans and t-case
and installed them one at a time. This worked well
except for the fact that now the truck refuses to shift
into 4wd.
I'm stumped, it worked just fine before I took
everything out and I'm thinking that perhaps I'm not
re-installing the 4wd shift lever correctly?? it
appears that there is only one way for it to go (and
shame on me for not paying more attention when I
took it out) but I'm not sure what else it could be.
Anyone have this issue before?

Check the diagram at the bottom of page one. Make sure the shift lever is installed to the right of the spring.

Thanks scuba! That diagram was exactly what I needed. The shift lever is in correctly now and the TCase is shifting like it should be through the ranges and neutral, but I still have no 4wd. The indicator light on the dash doesn't come on either. The truck is ADD and I am wondering if I may have missed an
electrical connection somewhere along the
line. Any thoughts? (I'm not 100% on how ADD works)

I'm not too familiar with the ADD system (manual hubs FTW!).
But, as far as I know, there is a "trasnfer 4WD position switch" that is located on the drivers side of the transfercase. I believe that switch triggers the ADD system. Check to make sure it is plugged in.

And then, bookmark the factory service manual, here

If it still doesn't work, I'd post over on ttora.com/forum as most of those guys are well versed in the ADD operation.

Awesome Scuba ... your absolutely right, manual hubs are the way to go, though the lazy part of me loves just dropping her in, without having to get out. I'll check on the wiring tomorrow (to dark and cold to be crawling around out there tonight) at this point i imagine its something simple and I am just not looking in the right place.
Thank again for the help! I'll be sure to bookmark that FSM ... def gonna be useful in the future ... many more mods to come
