Transfer Actuator?

hi guys and gals. new to this forum. first post, so bear with me.
got a 1997 4runner limited with 3.4l, auto, a.d.d differential. after a couple of fitful days, 4wd stopped working altogether.have eliminated the 2-4 switch, fuses,a.d.d. vacuum actuator, vsv solenoids, switch on transfer case actuator.the front drive shaft is still turning as if in 4wd but front diff not locked.thnking transfer case actuator is fried as power to it produces no movement.my question is this, i can get a complete transfer case with actuator from a 1999 4runner sr5 automatic. tho it appears identical will it work in my 4runner limited.what are the issues?
regards
ron

Just make sure you got power to the 4wd shift motor on the back of the transfer case.

thanx james, actually took the plug off the motor and applied 12v to the
terminals. no go. also checked the resistance between terminals 2&3 of
the actuator and resistance is thousands of ohms, way out of spec.
