Question Tranny troubles HELP!!!!

Big problem! My shifter won't move from park and the button on top of the shifter doesn't go in! I have to manually release the shift lock with my fingernail just to put my car into gear.

Anybody know what's going on here? Can I disable the shift lock for good? :pat:

Talking Shifter

I have never had that problem on my 4Runner, but on other vehicles and the mechanism that makes the button function, usually a spring of some sorts breaks, pops loose, etc. Not a difficult fix I would imagine.

Exclamation

Before it stopped working I would press on the brake, and hear a slight click up in my steering colum (I think) and then it would function. Now there is no click, no workey.

Maybe some seloniod went out? Anybody know how the shift lock works?

Check your fuses.
I had that happen while towing and it took me a while to figure out what happened.
Freaked me out cause I couldn't get it out of park.

I am pretty sure it was the brake light fuse.
Mine blew when I was towing a trailer and when I parked it I couldn't get it back in gear.
I took the whole console apart to get it home and later found the blown fuse.
Replaced it and all was well again.....I was freaked out for a little while tho.

YAY! WOOHOO! YAY!

As soon as you said brake light I knew exactly what caused it. My trailer wiring harness was torn when my hitch dragged up a pile of rocks earlier in the day. The wire shorted to ground, and blew the fuse! I wonder if I pissed anybody off not having brake lights.

Taped those wires, and changed the fuse- now we're back on the road!

Thanks so much!
