Tranny cooler ?????

After tonight snow run, i realize i need to get me a tranny cooler. several time i had the A/T temp light come on, we would stop let it cool some till the light went off then would continue on. I searched and saw that alot of you are using the hayden 1678, the stacked plate style cooler. Is this the right one to get? I want something to keep that fluid cool, i really dont want to see that light again. Thanks for the help.

That's what I got, approx. $70 with add'l hoses and 2 qts. of DexronIII. Works great, and is a must with a S/C, or in the desert!

If you got your fluid hot enough to activate the light you need to have a complete flush right away. I have had mine upto 270 a couple of times and the light never came on. You must of really been boiling that fluid. Flush it right away.

Gadget's right. If you got the fluid hot enough to trip the A/T light, you need to get that fluid out. When it hits boiling point, A/T fluid looses some of it's lubricating properties. While it may look and smell okay, it can still lead to premature transmission failure. The clutch packs will wear away quicker and you'll be left with a $3,000+ repair bill.
Having the transmission flushed isn't very expensive and should be done routinely every 60K miles anyways. Checker around. I know most dealers do it but they charge a small fortune. I think Jiffy Lube has a nice system they can hook up to it.

I don't mean to sound preechy (sp?) or anything. I just don't like to hear of anyone being stuck with a high repair bill.

EDIT:
I did a little reasearch for ya. BG Products has a good transmission flush service. I did a search for BG services in Virginia zip 24060 and came up with these:

You might call around and see what they charge to flush your tranny. See if they'll do a package tranny/engine flush and shave a few bucks off the total.

Like other folks said, the 1678 is the one to get. I got mine from these guys:
http://www.bulkpart.com/cgi-bin/miva...egory_Code=HCS

$43.79 plus shipping, and I had it within a week of ordering it. Everything you need comes in the box. Install is easy and straight-forward.

Go find the biggest Hayden that you can make fit. Then buy some 3/8 ATF hose. Trust me on this, the 11/32 that ships with the Hayden is a REAL knuckle buster. Yes, I realize it's only 1/32, but save yourself a knuckle or two! Another consideration, switch to Amsoil's synthetic ATF for the extra protection.

Not trying to get into a pissing contest, but I don't know about that Mark. For me anyways, in my model #1678 box there was only about 2' of tranny hose and their ain't no way it seems that small amount of length of hose would have worked, much less the smaller diamter (5/16") have fit over the steel tubing ends. I got some 3/8" ID tranny hose (12' with some left over) and I barely got it on there with the scars still on my hands/wrists to prove it 3-4 months later. I spent about $51 on the tranny cooler and $39 on additional stuff, but then again, I might have mounted mine differently than you did. Just an FYI!

Nope, understood.

Actually, I was surprised not to have to use anything else other than what came with!

Mad Chemist had given me a heads-up to go out and get about 8' of hose, and I had, but once I opened the box and looked at where I was going to put it (upper passenger corner of the radiator) and route the plumbing, then I found that the box had what I needed.

I've heard from other folks that they had been short-changed on hose with their kits, mine had about 4'. Size vs. Knuckles wise, while we were looking at it, Dr. Z suggested using a little tranny fluid smeared onto the end of the hose as a lube, and that worked great.

I dunno what the difference was in making this box seemingly more complete than what other folks had seen.

Maybe it's an "installer beware" situation in that the installer needs to test fit everything and be ready to make a trip to Schucks just in case.

BTW, Nice job on the website writeups Brian!

I mounted mine pretty much the same as Mark so I didn't buy anything extra either.
The Hayden is definately the way to go (don't pay extra for the TRD).
